Fuck HD. Fuck your survey. Fuck your spam.

Buell were the best thing they ever had a hand in, and they killed it off, along with any chance at getting into Europe in decent numbers. The tactic of marketing a lifestyle to older professionals and making the bikes secondary to that will *never* sit well with people that actually like riding bikes, as opposed to pretending to be a badass once a week. The younger generation are even less interested in this lifestyle, and the older generation are dying off and buying less bbikes, which gives HD something of a puzzle to work out.

Unless they become the next Tesla of the electric bike world then I think HD are finished. Also a V-twin adventure bike is not the best layout compared to the an inline twin or triple for packaging, and HD is a V-twin or Electric only company.

I think the new bike market is unfortunate generally now, but if they are struggling to sell 1000cc sports bikes despite alot of money and development still being undertaken on them, well you can see that selling bad ass bikes is a much harder gig still.

I think HD (and their loyal congregation of Goatee Sporting Phat Bastirts) are shite.

I think a lot of surveys are full of wank.

I don't have time to reply in more detail.

Sorry.

I'm happy to do the survey. Where is it?

Harley's adventure bike will have a brand new water cooled engine in it...a huge step. It's sink or swim time for Harley (again.)

Here's a close-up look at the adventure bike https://youtu.be/Y6NbBAG4f0s

The new motor looks like this. Meh. Needs more fins, looks awful IMO. https://i.imgur.com/INzp7jI.jpg

The motor is called the Revolution Max. Harley have said it will initially be in the adventure bike, which gets a 1200 version, and this roadster, which gets a 975 (I think):

They're meant to ship next year with a launch late this year. But that plan was made before the virus. I predict it won't happen and Harley will be begging for Chinese finance/takeover fairly soon.

They sacked their CEO the other day. This interview is an interesting reflection on his mistakes: https://advrider.com/harley-is-at-a-pivotal-time-which-way-should-it-turn/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=editorial&utm_content=03_16_2020

Right, let's dust off my well-worn "spout bullshit" hat...

What have Harley got? A world wide reputation for V-twin cruisers. People still like cruisers so probably worth keeping these style of bikes in at least a holding pattern. Still Baby Boomers and a few Gen-Xers to sell to, an image to maintain, but ultimately no future for this format with Millennials and Gen-Z.

They also have a history in racing - scramblers, trials bikes and so on - but you'd have to be a bit of a HD buff to know that. They might want to take a punt that way, certainly Ducati have done alright out of that market.

And then there's the inevitable electric bike. If HD were to hire a truly inspirational designer to design an electric cruiser (all the electric bikes so far seem to be sports oriented) something that simultaneously screams "100% Harley Davidson" and "Beyond the Zeitgeist." I doubt they have the bravery Sad

No, they'll probably do something dumb stick with this ugly V-twin ADV Puke

Exactly my point: you have to see the badge to know it's Harley Sad

Looks much heavier than Vstrom1000. I read this motor as liquid cooled.
If I want large V twin adventure, I will go for Vstrom1000.
Even Vstrom650 is huge for me though.
What I don't like about HD are Inch screw, heavy weight, expensive price tag/service fee/options, thick grips (american size).
"HD riders with old motors often look down newer harley owners" like such attitudes are seen even here, and I hate such hate inside harley communities.

Personally I think the Pan America is a weird looking bike - but the Bronx 'street' version is easier on the eye - the Bronx reminds me vaguely of Buell in terms of the concept and the looks - but without Buell's sporty geometry and design quirks.
