I must admit to spending more time watching our bird feeder lately.
Not quite the same but it keeps me amused for a while.
I’m happy to say that the House Sparrow and the Hedge Sparrow seems to be on the up this year. ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

Mrs stinkwheel and I sat and watched a newly fledged osprey robbing pigeon squabs from the nest while we were canoeing on the Dumfriesshire Dee a couple of years back. There was an almighty hulabaloo as it ineptly forced its way in and out of the tree branches with the adult pigeons harrassing it.
The interesting thing was when we recounted the story to the RSPB guy at the "official" osprey observatory near Keswick. He point blank told us we were wrong and that ospreys eat fish and nothing but fish and that it must have been some other sort of bird we'd seen .
Well, I'm afraid ospreys are pretty distinctive and this one clearly hadn't read the book. They can and do eat pigeon squab if it looks easier to get than fish. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen.
