Horse spooked by off-road bikers, horse rider badly hurt, bikers fail drugs test or were in possession. Without the drugs element you might ask whether the bikers were at fault.
I recall telling a horse-riding friend about encountering horses and riders on a country lane where one took such fright I turned round and went the other way. I asked my friend what was the best way to respond; wait for the horse to be brought under control (all the while in its view) or slip past slowly and quietly. She said it depended on the horse!
Horses do make a proper mess of a bridle path too, comparable to vehicles.
I'm not anti-horse, just looking for some perspective in the news. |

“We also need to establish if the bikes were using the bridleway or footpaths, which would be a public place, or whether they went deeper into the woods, which would have been more private."
What difference does that make? Using a motor vehicle on a footpath or bridleway isn't a police matter, trespass is a civil matter. Only one of the five were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Wonder what powers the police used to seize all five bikes and the transit van.
Meh, horses are dangerous. |

Driving mechanically propelled vehicles elsewhere than on roads? Which is a statuatory offence.
EDIT and there are no byways anywhere near there. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I've never figured out why it's ok to let your horse shit all over the place in public without clearing up after it but if you let your dog do that or even better if we decided to do it we'd be slated ____________________ 2007 Yamaha FZ1 S Fazer

Although it should be remembered that the horse in question here was not on the road. Almost certainly on a bridleway looking at the article. Which is for horses, cyclists and pedestrians and definately not motor vehicles. It also encountered a bunch of idiots on trailbikes (and do we think they were road legal?) who were off their tits on something. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Yes, I checked the online version of the Oxfordshire definative rights of way map and there are no unmetalled roads or byways in that area legally accessible to motor vehicles.
Unless, I supopose, they had the landowners permission to be there. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
