The 765 street weighs 160kg dry or something. A few KGs on fairing and larger tank, keep everything else the same, or maybe just put a bit more padding on the seat. It would cost about £5 R&D but would sell a shedload.

But once you add a fairing and a larger, heavier fuel load, you change the dynamics. Then if you really want it to work well, you're chasing other stuff around to adapt for that - ergonomics, geometry etc. Then you've got a whole different bike.

The Daytona has an extra 10kg of fairing, so it wouldn't be hard to work out the difference in damping between the two. They have the data, and even if they do change the suspension at both ends, it's still cheaper to develop than a brand new big Sprint.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Yet here we have a thread that makes it fairly clear that even the ST and Daytona are two very different choices. The wonder is that the ST works so well, a sports bike turned mega-successful 'roadster' (for want of a better term). I don't think that happens very often. Of course, it might if you did as you're saying. That's why I said I half agree.

I don't know if you remember when I was talking about buying my ST, but I mentioned there was, in the showroom I was browsing, a Daytona that had been converted (allegedly in the Triumph factory) to an ST. Everyone said don't buy it, and I didn't. I was concerned that the different tune on the hybrid wouldn't suit the upright ST ergonomics, and I decided I wouldn't get the proper ST experience as everyone knew and loved it, which was what intrigued me in the first place. And now, having owned a proper ST, I think I and those that advised me were right.

Having a fairing for a bit of wind protection for longer trips would have been nice, and definitely more fuel range would have been nice too. But if it would mean changing the overall experience, I wouldn't go for it, now I know what the ST is about. I'm not even sure the change to 765 was a good idea (although I won't know for sure unless I try one).

A whole new bike that incorporates some of the best of that feel, ok. But it won't be a Street Triple anymore imo.

Agree with you both Smile

I added to my ST:

A re-inforced topbox rack.
Triumph "High Comfort" seat (the thickest of the 2 seat accessory options).
Chain luber.
High screen (which I later removed because it wasn't hugely successful and looked fugly).

Things that I miss:
Another 20bhp and 10lb would have been nice.....basically the 765
A mini fairing. Something to reduce the wind, rain and noise a bit on motorways.
Tank range. It claims 17.4L, but tests have proven that only 12.5L is accessible. This give a true range of 150 miles and you're looking to stop at 110. A 20L tank would mean 240 miles. Much better for a bike thats so easy to ride 200 miles straight if you wanted to.
USB plug up front..... I could fit one, but currently just carry a battery pack instead.

ST is a compromise, as all things. But it would have been nice if they offered a touring pack. But that's completely not what it was about and I would imagine their marketing bods wouldn't want to muddy the waters.

Really? Not sure I believe that.

I have managed to get about 15l in my Street, and I have a 12v socket up front.

Mmmm. And now I can't find the source. Must have been rubbish, or I got the numbers wrong.
