I've just received a newly refurbished and re-nicasil coated cylinder for my KMX. Its had a light clean up on the port windows and a bit of tidying up done. But theres still a few bits of filings and swarf visible in the nooks and crannies.

I was planning on cleaning it with some small paint brushes and bottle brushes in hot soapy water, and then banging it in the dishwasher tonight. Is there anyway this could damage the bore surface possibly?

I thought it would leave it super clean and dry ready to oil the bore for fitting tomorrow, as I've got a day to myself in the shed and messing with two strokes sounds an eminently better way to spend a bank holiday than going out or visiting family in the rain. Thumbs Up

I wouldn't know for certain either way, but given the mess I've seen a dishwasher make of stainless knives, I'm not sure I'd be taking the risk.

Better off with compressed air probably? Even tinned stuff would do the trick if you don't have access to a compressor.

I wouldn't do it if I had salt in the dish washer but if you just use those multi tab things and no salt. Thumbs Up

If 900-degrees heat coupled with combustion pressures, corrosive fuels and combustion gases for tens of thousands of miles leave the Nikasil plating looking like new, two liqui-tabs and a couple of hours wash in hot water isn't going to bother it either.

Cheers guys for spouting some sense, it's in the dishwasher now with tonight's dinner plates cutlery. Laughing
We'll see in the morning if I still have a trick performance cylinder or a load of rusty scrap. This fucking 125 is costing me thousands, I need therapy to get me out of this blind hole and onto proper adults bikes again.

As for putting the mother in law in the dishwasher, do they even make dishwashers big enough for fat abrasive MIL's? And if so will it shut them up and wash away all the moaning spiel and nastiness?

Cylinder came out of dishwasher clean and dry at least on the outside. But a 5-10min scrub in soapy hot water with tooth brushes, and small paint brushes followed by a rinse and dishwasher cycle wasn't enough!

I've since blasted it with brake cleaner into a tray and had another go a scrubbing all the nooks and crannies, and especially the power valve slots, holes and passages. The shocking thing was how much aluminium dust was left in the tray afterwards after three lots of cleaning. Shocked

I can't get it any cleaner now so I've sprayed it in oil and wrapped it up in cling film until I'm ready to fit it. Whoever thought up the idea of bead blasting engine parts was a complete twat!
