Proud 'mericans could never understand, that it's the average consumers with the middle class and lower middle class incomes, who keep the sales going. Meaning, you won't get rich selling expensive mass produced things that are just way out of the reach of such consumers. Even Apple had to start making lower budget iPhones, iMacs and so on.

But, back to motor industry. Bugatti, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, even Ducati... would be long gone if not bought by VW group. VW group uses Skoda, Seat and their own car brand Volkswagen, to make and sell affordable cars, that actually generate enough income so those luxurious brands could live on.

In Italy it's FIAT, in France it's PSA and so on. All making affordable cars/motorcycles, that people actually buy, which generates the needed income. For instance, if Ferrari hadn't been owned by FIAT, they would have probably been long gone now. Especially since the ''money is no issue'' era isn't coming back any time soon.

I'd say consumer credit (a la PCP) with low monthly payments have kept the sales going here, which is yet another debt bubble created for the YOLO crowd. 1 in 10 eventually struggle to pay the repayments.

Car finance: The figures
£45.9bn was borrowed in 2018 for car finance
91.2% of all new cars were bought using finance
2.9 million cars were financed by members of the Finance and Leasing Association

So instead of making vehicles people can afford (or worse, encouraging them to maintain/improve the vehicles they already have) we alter the people - their financial situation at least - to fit the price.

Yes, that'll work out just fine Neutral
