I think the entire tail & seat looks a bit 1980's Japanese Sports Tourer, which isn't in itself bad but the front end looks likes old school Brit.... they clash a bit (just my opinion).
Just googled it though and the bike has a seat cowl to cover the pillion part....... it looks complete with the seat cowl. |
Google Honda GB500. There was a GB250 as well that looks like something Norton would make, if they didn't go bankrupt at that time, again.
The engine used in the GB250 is rather impressive, compared to the XBR/GB500 engines. It is a twin carburetor single cylinder, lacking about 11kW, but it revs above 10k rpm, which is way more than what an XBR/GB 500 engine can do, plus the GB250 weighs only about 130Kg (XBR is 20Kg heavier, the GB500 is 27Kg heavier), and goes as fast as, if not faster than, the 0.5L variants. The 250 also runs a 6 speed gearbox, unlike the 0.5L variants that have only 5 gears in the box.
Could the gearing (one extra gear, while the top gear being overdrive) be the reason why the 250 runs as fast as the 500? Also, as mentioned, the 500 engines can spin the crank 50% slower than the 250.
I'm gonna do some experiments with the final drive gear ratio, then. 3K rpm on the XBR, using the top gear, gets you comfortable 60mph.
*There were also 400cc variants.
Here's a nice review of the GB 250: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkrg-0VXT9Y ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

I had a couple of short-lived clutch cables on a cb500. Turned out I hadn't been rigorous enough about determining the correct year of manufacture. I was out by one year and apparently the clutch cables are different from e.g. '97 - '98. Everything else is identical. Wtf. ____________________ "Life is a sexually transmitted disease and the mortality rate is one hundred percent."

Took a bumble down to Cheddar Gorge, got slightly hoonigan-ish on some of the roads.
There wasn't a great deal of people about, due to the current covid situation and far less of the old couples in cars, going along at sub 30 miles an hour, staring at the scenery.
New addition of a full Akrapovic system to the bike made for a lot of fun too.
Very pleasant ride overall.

Seem to mostly moan about service speed at a tourist trap
Ham, eggs and chips looks good and the view looks good. I can live with slow service.
Noisy lobster down Mudeford way is worth a visit, though don't order the actual lobster (defrosted Canadian), burgers are/were 8.5/10. |
