I have one. It's not a panacea but it helps. particularly in hot weather actually because it isn't quite as sweaty as sitting on a sheet of vinyl and you don't burn your arse if the seat's got mad hot in the sun and you're wearing thin trousers.
They don't soak up water, it just sits on the surface.
I put a bit of grip mat under mine because it had a tendancy to move about.
Best way to do gel pads is to remove the seat cover, cut a hole in the foam and insert a gel pad then re-cover it. The ones you get for wheelchairs are pretty cheap.
That said, 2 hours riding is probably time for a short break really?
I've seen me put on cycle shorts if I know I'm going to have to do an epic run. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

I used one on my Goldwing and it was really really good. It made it a lot more comfortable for long distances on a bike that was already comfortable and then used it on my Tiger Explorer where it really made a difference as well.
This was a sheepskin bought from a shop that dealt with leathers. Good quality, well tanned or whatever the preparation is called. It wasn't cheap.
It's not so good when it rains though. Soggy bottom and all that.
I'd have one on my Trophy but it's got heated seats so hot smelly wet sheepskin is not going to be on offer.

Used once on a Pan for touring Italy / France.
Good for keeping the seat cool in the hot sun. ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F
