Hi all! First time poster here.

I have a Suzuki GSX750 1980 USA model and I need to replace the wiring harness as it's an absolute mess and a bit of a hazard as it is. Electrics certainly isn't my forte, so I could dick about for hours trying to sort it out and probably take several steps backwards or just replace it.

My question is, are there other wiring looms/after market that will fit my bike or am I best finding an exact match on ebay. If so would anyone be able to point me in the right direction. I will be changing all the lights/gauges etc on the bike anyway so I'm thinking a new aftermarket harness might be the best option.

Probably best to find a friend who is into electrics Wink If you find a stock harness you'll be chopping it up anyway. Still, it would be the best starting point.

At the other end you could get a selection of wire colours and make your own loom but there's a bit of artistry in a nice and tidy loom wrap. How's your patience levels?

Your chances of finding a new harness for a 40 year old bike are very limited.

Your best bet probably is to either repair the loom or make a new loom. Assuming connectors are available (try Kojaycat) it probably won’t be that difficult, and on a bike of that age the loom is likely fairly simple.

There are a few people around who can make custom looms if you don’t fancy it yourself

All the best

Yes after a decent couple hours searching there isn't much out there, going to repair the current loom.

This brings me to my next question, I believe the CDI box is gone as it's not sparking on two cylinders. The CDI box doesn't appear to be original, it is a dynatek box. Pickup coils look fine, swapping the wires over to the ignition coils alternates the spark so 2/3 spark when connected and 1/4 spark when connected to the one wire receiving signal.

My question is, does anyone know of a good aftermarket CDI unit that comes with pick up coils that will fit my bike? All my searches end up with dynatek stuff and from what I've heard they are not the best

Many thanks

Think the older dyna systems weren’t that reliable, but not heard anything about the newer ones.

I had a Dyna 2000 on my gsxr11 when I bought it. While being set up in the dyno the power dropped on several runs in a row. Started at 135hp and dropped to about 80hp. The dyna 2000 had died. Replaced it with a new one and it lasted until I sold it, although did few miles (drag strip mainly)

All the best
