There's an article in MCN this week that talks in terms of g/km of CO2 emissions (that's grammes per kilometre) which I can finally understand.

Now what I'm saying is:
If the grammes per kilometre of harmful GHG (green house gas) emissions has been measured by simply burning off 10litres of fuel and measuring how much GHG emissions come out of the tail pipe; and then the GHG emissions are multiplied by how many kilometres the vehicle does per litre of fuel:

Then the results could be very misleading if no-one has yet factored in the 25-33% increase in fuel consumption due to emissions restrictions imposed on ECU's and exhaust systems!

KLX250 60-90mpg - 33%
BMW i8 100-134mpg - 25%

You could try bugging bcf about your non issue.

The Green Party won't be interested in efficiency they'd get rid of ICE cars, bikes, lorries, the lot! And then they'd get rid of people and return the Earth to it's natural state...

It's all about ticking boxes and meeting 'the right' targets isn't it? A bit like when they started putting EGRs and DPFs in diesel cars. Makes them cleaner but less efficient. Like you say, they may appear to be emitting fewer particulates on idle or on a given rev test but in the real world when you're actually burning more fuel because they are less efficient... I can't see how, in the real world, it actually works out better for the environment. But it looks good on paper ay? And the governments can say they're doing their bit!

I'm trying to think of what it was... documentary? blog? I can't remember but basically [affect Clarkson accent] a Jag.

This guy stripped out the electrics and put in copper bus bars - everything was controlled by relays. Tweaked the engine, exhaust, etc. and took a serious environmental hazard and made it almost as green as a modern ICE (for the time, probably 5 years or so ago.)

The punchline being that really, when it comes right down to it, the most environment impact from a vehicle is from its construction and shouldn't we be reinvigorating old cars instead of crushing them and making new ones.

Good job the idea didn't get traction or he'd be hanging under Hammersmith Bridge.

With Euro 7 coming in there are the usual predictions of doom for the ICE, e.g.

https://ww2.frost.com/frost-perspectives/european-emission-regulations-will-stringent-emission-regulations-choke-automotive-industry-or-will-oems-find-their-way-out/

tl;dr expect lighter cars, smaller engines, hybridisation, etc.

However, bucking the trend is a Porsche bod:

https://www.thedrive.com/news/33529/porsche-911-boss-claims-new-emissions-regs-could-bring-back-bigger-engines-in-2026

Apparently the Euro 7 specs put a limit on the power output per litre so the prediction is, for performance cars at least, Euro 7 might lead to bigger, turbo engines. WTF?

Been speaking to 'Environmental Protection' and they didn't seem to know about 'increased' fuel consumption!
Being very evasive, claiming they're just a charity and trying to stick their heads in the sand.

Contacted 'DEFRA' in the same sarcastic tone but they are going take 20 working days to respond.

No news to report at all from official channels!

A sign of guilt?
