In cash terms, I would hazard a guess the amount of money spent by health trusts on agency workers far exceeds the foreign worker charge. These agency hours are easily predictable hours which should really be filled by permanent employees. They're not just nurses and doctors with their degrees and diplomas but support assistants and ancillary workers who can take up posts with little need for initial training time and cost. The money made by private sector agencies off the back of this is a real scandal.

That's an utterly stupid argument. What you are saying is because we have to spend more on agency nurses, we might as well not charge for other fees the law says they should be charged.

So if agency nurses cost x and we get y back from nurses fees the overall cost is X-Y.

You are advocating X+Y simply because X is a higher figure than Y.
