Given a recent run of luck, mainly related to finding good bikes at bugger all cash, such as this 16,500 mile ZZR1100 for 500 queenheads:

https://i.postimg.cc/KcLbYCDf/IMG-20200322-135703884-HDR.jpg

Notice the standard post respray 'KAWASAK' moniker on the tank. The 'I' always falls off. Laughing

It was topped off with my recent perloining of a 49k mile GSX1100F, which featured a remus 4-1 system, full Krauser luggage and acres of mould having lived under a cover outside with someone who was obviously allergic to water. Hence it appears to never have been washed.

Known issues are the SPS don't work [like most of them TBH], it has a blown fork seal, stopped starting on the button and the ignition is a screwdriver jobby after some scrotes tried to nick it a year ago. However it has MOT till september, runs great and is rideable.

I handed over the asking price and then went to see it. Why would I hand over the asking and then go to see it? This motherfucker only set me back 150 quid. 150 greenqueens. That's less than a decent pre-covid night out, and this big girl likes to party all-the-time.

I bump started it in front of the bloke, however when I got to the ferry terminal I had a spare few minutes so I pulled the sidestand switch wires out and wound them together so it started on the button.

Getting it back home [cracking ride, brakes are covered in oil so it didn't stop, but the standard one doesn't anyway] I had the face off straight away. The SPS [suzuki power screen] had to work. According to the bloke selling it it hadn't worked for about 12 years [he'd owned it ten and his old man sold it to him cheap, it didn't work then] so regardless of what stopped the screen working in the first place the mechanism was proper seized. like 4hrs of painstakingly removing the motor, gear drive, working lube into tight spaces[ Razz ], tweaking the screen, rinse, repeat 4 hrs seized.

Motor looks in great nick, hardly used, so I just cleaned the comm and brushes and shoved it back in.

https://i.postimg.cc/QNf89C4b/IMG-20200503-131645124-HDR.jpg

With a set of molegrips clamped on the drive spigot I was able to lift and lower the screen 1mm at a time until I'd covered the whole travel.

https://i.postimg.cc/QxRwzZY5/IMG-20200503-131637364-HDR.jpg

Once it had travelled the whole range of moevement smoothly with little resistance I reassembled the gear drive and motor, pulled the motor connector and manually jumped it with wires off the battery.

Poggers.

The original failure was on the part of the relay that controls the screen. the wiring pings fine, as does the handlebar switch. The mechanism now works perfectly, we are left with the relay, that rattles when you shake it. I have ordered another so hopefully that will get us a screen moving on the button.

Next things are to get the fork seal sorted, a new ignition, then look into getting some modern rubber under this beast.

Fukkin bargain. You'd sell the luggage for more than that.

£150 for something with a feature called a Suzuki Power Screen? You sir, are Jammy.

I like it. I probably wouldn't have it myself, but I see the appeal. Maybe in ten years time this is exactly the type of bike I'll lust after.

Both bargains. The zzr was once the fastest bike on the road s in gorgeous nick and the Suzuki oil boiler has one of the most stonkingly tunable engines. Drag racers used to love them.

Both classics, both getting rare now. Keep them.

Got around to degunking it a fair bit.

Paint, where it hasn't been rubbed off by boots/legs/cover over the years is still in good nick, even with an ever so quick polish.

https://i.postimg.cc/q7XnRdjF/IMG-20200504-131752343-HDR.jpg

Can was also horrible, to the point the metal had discoloured as well as pitted. 15 minutes with autosol and a scourer got it back to 'fuck it I'll smoke that about' status.

https://i.postimg.cc/90fb70qn/IMG-20200504-131708681-HDR.jpg

It really needs going over to replace all the bolts and fastenings as they are horrible. something I will be doing one by one when it is back together.

Don't worry Pete, it won't be going anywhere at the moment. I'm looking forward to having somewhere to put me shopping and taking it for a ride at ridiculous speeds too much. Laughing

You should totally tell people you got an SPS for £150. Allow people to believe it's a 916 SPS for a requisite amount of time, then go "Nah, it's a Suzuki Power Screen."

Laughing

It'll also be a good crack to tell them I've got an SPS and that i've never had any mechanical or running problems with it.

They'll never believe that. Laughing

The zed for £500 had me jealous, if those are new Chinese fairings they are almost worth that. The Seized Power Screen for £150, bloody hell.... where did you find that?

The fairings are original kawasaki and have essentially no physical damage to them, standard foam/inserts still in place. The previous owner is a friend of mine who had bought it when it was three years old, so had owned it 23 years. He never reset the trip in all the time he owned it, so the 8300 miles that showed on it where all the miles he'd ever done on it. It was already black when he bought it, so I can only imagine it had a slide or something and maybe someone hadn't been able to afford to insure it fully comp, so had repaired it on the cheap with oem but different coloured panels and got someone to spray it jet black.

It was red originally I think, from what I can see along some edges where paint has worn back slightly. The paint is nowhere near perfect, it's got microblisters in it in places, and the nosecone flat out needs to be redone, but we're talking about a possibly older than 23yr old aftermarket black job, so it isn't that surprising. Nor is not a beautiful bike

The SPS came from Southampton, the uncle of a friend. My mate just turned around one day and said did I want his uncle's powerscreen for 150 quid.

If his flys had been open I'd have shoved the money straight in there.

On the button baby!

This is in excellent service as my hack about everyday at the moment. Went out on it last Sunday and scared the bejesus out of meself hammering about on me 16 inch muscle car tyres and rear calipers for front brakes. Laughing

I admit with all the other stuff you did, I expected you to pop that relay open and simply reattach the bar to the contact. -2 points griffendor.

S'all time innit. I'm also building a lightweight supertwin out of a carby SV and the cruiser project was on (other thread) not to mention my turbo is in bits everywhere. Was easier to just order another relay and pop it on when it arrived. The Powerscreen was important, but not that important. Laughing
