New Member here looking for some advice.

I'm looking for a Honda Transalp but would like to know what is considered to be a high mileage for these bikes??

Ive seen one locally, a 650cc, but it has 40 000 miles on the clock.
Should i be considering this? It looks well looked after but I dont know what else to look for.

I can afford to buy something newer with less miles on it but is it worth the extra cash for what I'll be using it for. I'm over 70 years old, live in the N West UK. and will be riding up to the Lake district occasionally for the day, say 150 to 200 miles round trip plus the usual odd trips here and there , 30 ,40 miles etc.??

I had a 600 Alp about 20 years ago and loved it but I'mm ''out of touch'' so to speak and ANY thoughts or info will be gratfully received.

MANY thanks.

It's on the high side but if motor is quiet and a test ride feels stable with no worrying clunky noises, not a bad buy for your intended use.
A bike of that age expect various things to need replacing sooner or later if you have the audacity to use it - but shouldn't break the bank

I think this is the same engine as a 650 Deauville. If so they are fine for easily over 100k miles with regular oil changes. I wouldn't have a problem with 40k miles at all.

Engine wise it'll be absolutely fine. Concentrate on whether forks / rear shock have had a rebuild, the clutch is still ok and chain sprocket and tyres are in good shape. Don't overpay for it and you'll be fine.

Check that the output shaft the front sprocket sits on is:-
a/not worn on the splines where the sprocket fits it.
b/has no fore and aft or up and down movement. In and out is alright.

To check the above needs a bit of dismantling but is well worth checking. Other than this they are relatively bullet proof.
