a mate of mine has just got one of these but he cant ride it till january... anyway he thinks it is faster than my RS125 Rolling Eyes

I was wondering if anyone knows the top speed of these bikes? I didnt think they were terribly fast concidering the fact that they are scramblers...

I was thinking the acceleration would be quite good but top end speed? Laughing

Yea... I can't see it doing much more than 75-80. But it should have pretty decent acceleration upto about 60.

Hi

Found a bit online:-

https://www.bikez.com/bike/index.php?bike=140

Top speed is given as 64.6. OK that is listed as 15hp (so presumably restricted), but then a 15hp NSR would do at least 80 (after all, 75ish true for a 12hp one).

Basically you will leave him behind, although he might be ahead for a second or 2 from a standstill (the RS has a high first gear)

All the best

Keith

Gas Gas bikes generally have a mental torque rating, and so are geared for low down power...you will definately leave him behind though - 'cos he'll either have to feed the power out gently, or pick himself up after doing a 180 degree wheelie (G-Stylee) Razz Laughing

I saw a program about it and they are taxed! I was surprised as well. Wouldn't fancy riding one of them down the M1.

I believe gas gas now do road going *trail* bikes as well, if not then my answer up ^there^ is compeltly wrong.

Just googled.. and yes they do

The normal gas gas is a *trials* bike, which would probably have a top speed of 30ish, and be made for going up mostly Very Happy

I remember hearing that the trials bikes were good for 70- must have been bigger cc or something, or I just heard wrong.

Trials bikes on top speed are slow. No need to be fast, as it is far more important to be light and controlable, especially when trying to defy gravity Surprised

Years ago we taught a friend to ride a bike on my old MBX125. He got used to slipping the clutch like mad to move off. Then we put him on a TY175 trials bike. The bike went off down the car park, on one wheel leaving him behind. The bike got 20~30 yards easily.

All the best

They're pretty new, soprobably £2k+ .... I'd stick with a dt or kmx.. cheaper, more proven and you won't be so pissed off when you crash....
You'll lose less when you sell it as well.

yes i think he probably paid around the 2 grand mark he didnt tell me the exact figure but when he was looking at buying a 125 that was his spending budget.

Scramblers do look ok in my opinion but i have never really concidered them as being very good road bikes as the aerodynamics is sh*t which means at any high speed the rider gets knocked about even more by the wind than if your on a sports/tourer. Plus the riding position looks really crap, when you see people on scramblers they look silly (straight back with arms stretched out) Then again they would look even stupider trying to tuck in behind the tank Wink

It is quite big, but the fact that the wheel is probably 15" makes it look bigger

If the Gas Gas in question is a Pampera 125, basically a trail bike thats heavily biased towards off road abilities then its actually quite slow on speed. Its torquey tho as it uses a 125cc trials engine, with a different exhaust and carb, but thats it. 15bhp aint a restricted fig, thats all its designed to make, look at the low engine speed, 15bhp is alot for just 6600rpm. However if its the enduro Gas Gas or the Supermoto version then these 125's are supposed to have 36/37bhp full power guise, which is a bit more than any RS125, so acceleration wise theyd probably kill the RS up to 60mph. I have heard that a full power KMX or DT is as fast as the RS125 up to 60ish, as they have lower gearing which works in their favour.
