Woolie/wool/woolyback, as explained to me by some bird in Leasowe, is any person who is not a scouser but comes from one of the outlying areas like The Wirral/Runcorn/Buuurrrrrrrchin'ead. They were called wollybacks because they worked in the docks toting huge bales of wool on their backs.
