Since update to 78.0.1 plinging the address/awesome/whatever bar produces the normal list of most-used sites, but with the addition of "Search with Google" and "Search with Amazon.co.uk" at the top, both with a little grey pin symbol on.

Putting a space in then shows the normal most-used sites, but these new additions are a PITA. I have not managed to find out how to get riud of them.

Has anyone? How?

Not used FF in ages, but you can typically toggle what search providers are used in the search bar in the options.

Have you tried right clicking on the pin? Maybe you can unpin it.

Constant Firefox updates caused me to get rid long ago.

The thing that really did it for me was when they switched to a new user profile system which meant I lost everything - bookmarks, passwords etc - unless I wanted to dick around with a load of files in the background. That was last year I think.

Chrome does the job for me now.

You know Chrome updates itself to the next major version pretty much every 6 weeks?

Fine by me. If it is doing that, it's happening in the background and doesn't hinder me in any way. Firefox updates were intrusive and involved a shitload of waiting and/or clicking to get through it all.

My problem with Chrome is lack of update notes. Otherwise its my primary browser.

How bizarre. I have never seen "a shitload of waiting and/or clicking" on a Firefox update.

Me neither - I get Firefox is installing updates and will start shortly. Usually only for a few seconds.

Yay! Fixed it. Curse those abstrads.

1) Go Tools->Options->Home OR about:preferences#home

2) On "Firefox Home Content" select "Top Sites" &/OR Highlights. (I can'r remember which, if you do it, please post!).

3) Open a new tab. You will see the suggestions tiled on it.

4) Hover over the offending item. Click the three-dot "Open Menu) and unpin. Note, you can't unpin this direct from the address bar.

5) Undo whatever changed you may have made to "Firefox Home Content".

Search with Gogle/Search with Amazon gone from the address bar dropdown!

At least, I think that's all that happens. I have hacked about with various stuff, will use the thing for a while to test.

Glad you got it fixed Thumbs Up

Personally, I don't update web browsers until websites stop rendering properly.
