Having strung this thread out it's probably time for the time honoured 'tits or gtfo' and a good dollop of marmalade on them for proof positive wouldn't go amiss. Laughing

In my defence, I started this thread as a genuine enquiry as to the process of importing a bike without papers. It was never meant as a tease. But far be it from me to disoblige your request

For the record, I now have definitive answers.

Here's how it goes

Complete "Notification of Vehicle Arrival" form for HMRC. Pay any monies owed duty and/or VAT (n.b vehicles >10yrs, >6000kms and already had VAT paid within EU, there's no VAT to pay).

Get MOT

Send MOT, proof of purchase, proof of your identity, proof of address and EITHER original logbook/export papers OR a dating certificate to DVLA with V55/5 form and correct monies

Ride off into sunset.

So it looks like if on the off chance I can't get hold of the logbook, a quick call to the relevant owners club and a cheque for £30 should get me what I need. I still don't know what, if anything, I will owe to HMRC. The bike meets 2 of the 3 "no vat" criteria. They can calculate it on what they think the bike is worth. Given it's in a poor state, I'm hoping that as I paid nothing for it and it's pretty much only worth scrap value (honest Shifty ) I should get away without being bent over too much.

I think that'll do for now. Special mention to taffyTDM, I found the old thread about his import which set me on the right road. The rest I've pieced together from various sources and specialised importers.

Keep your eyes peeled for the restoration thread!

Thanks all Thumbs Up

Ducati Desmodeci is my bet! I saw a crashed one with tens of thousands of pounds of damage not long ago for sale if I remember correctly. Is that it?
Looking forward to the rebuild thread if so...
Well, if not that then a Honda CX500!

It's gonna be something like an S4R, like that. Where Poseidon thinks it's a unicorn, but actually a ton of them were sold comparatively, right?

It's not going to be a prototype or the Ducati equivalent of a Sand Cast CB750 is it?

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I think you guys may have misunderstood my use of the word unicorn... Could it be that it is my unicorn. Not that the bike itself is necessarily a unicorn?.

I stand by that it's rare for what it is, but it's not a genre busting machine by any stretch. Until its safely tucked up in my garage, I shan't speak of it as if it is mine.

Patience dear friend. It's only in the last week that the requirement to quarantine for 14-days on arrival in Ireland has been dropped.

Back in November, seven long months ago, there were no queues for shops, petrol was about £1.35 a litre, a nobody had heard of the word ‘furlough’. Working from home was seen as the exception and this thread was interesting. How times have changed!

Truth be told I don't know for certain what it is.I was under the impression it's an S4 in the senna colours. However both the lad who owned it before my old man and my old man himself are adamant it has a 996motor. As I don't have any paperwork, I'll have to do some digging...
