UK foreign aid spending cut by £2.9bn amid economic downturn.

I know the arguments that foreign aid is a bribe to get countries onside with us. I know the arguments that 'rich' (note the inverted comma's Rolling Eyes ) countries should help out poorer countries but I couldn't give a fcuk about either.

All the sh1tholes of the world seem to be of the mindset they can slag off Britain as they seem fit yet still expect us to donate to their politicians retirement fund or building the next anti western terrorist training camp.

Well sod them. Pity it's not reduced to the total sum of FA but as you can see from the article, there a many politicians who think we should give, give, give.

Don't mind the concept of foreign aid, but our own house should be fully in order first. Funding India's space program whilst our pensioners have to decide whether to eat or heat a room that week sucks the big one.

In mostly cases we should call what it is; bribery. Sweeteners to curry favour and put ourselves at the front of the queue for trade and industry.

The house is going to be put in order by just removing the state pension and then letting everyone worry about their departure lounge spending on their own.

I've travelled a lot and have seen what abject poverty looks like. I've also seen what just regular poverty looks like - the kind of poverty that would make the left wing press over here froth at the mouth if they saw it in the UK, as in well and truly under the breadline 'we' call poverty - and do you know what it looks like? Strangely - happiness.

I shit you not. Some of the happiest people I've ever sat and talked to had not two crumbs for comfort. Their lives were relatively short and very simple, but by god were they happy.

I have done both as well and yes, there are some utter sh1t holes in the world. I, however do not regard us as responsible for being the worlds sh1t hole cleaner, doctor, financier, bank of Mummy and Daddy or whatever.

Until we have a world government, the responsibility of the welfare of the people lies with the countries they are part of, not us so perhaps they ought to look at spending some of their wealth on their people and not on Limousines and holiday homes.

Anyway. I'm amazed anyone wants our money, it comes from slave trading and don't you know.

Some form of back-door reparations perhaps?

Why does that sentence make me think of stitching-up an anal fissure?

Don't forget the money that goes to Space/Weapons, and of course corruption.

Example: Comic relief funds aid workers to go into Sudan.
Fair enough.
BUT the aid workers need to pay for a VISA.
Wonder where that money goes?
This is charity money too, not the foreign aid budget.

IIRC Cameron is the cunt you can blame for pegging the foreign aid budget to GDP. And much like a Guardian journalist that can swing both ways. I'm almost hoping that our economy collapses and we have negative GDP then we by law have to claw money out of these Third World shit holes.
