I have the opposite problem in my car (old grandad Vectra estate, perfect for me). I can't keep the bloody indicators on, the slightest touch of the steering wheel and they go off, I usually have to put them back on about 3 times approaching a roundabout or a turn into a side road.

Had a Mazda 626 that was perfect for this .... signal stalk on the right side of the wheel. Makes changing gears and putting your signals on at the same time a breeze. Don’t know why it’s not the standard in the UK to be honest. I really miss it.

I was taught to always check indicator was cancelled as I change gear pulling away. Seems to work for me anyway

I did my driving lessons in a Nissan Sunny but practised in a Ford Cortina. The indicator/light switches were on different sides on each model.

I well remember my driving instructor, who looked like Grant Mitchell but talked like Noel Coward, saying, "That rather top chep has let you pass through the gap, flash your headlights to say thenk you as you go through"

As the wipers went swish swish over the screen he looked at me and said, "Never mind dear boy, I'm sure he knew what you meant!"

On a litre bike you may not change gear for a mile or so....

Doesn't everyone frequently thumb the indicator button without even checking? Just me and my OCD then. Although I call it CDO because that's alphabetical.

Yeah I do, got into the habit as otherwise I would be riding around with them blinking sometimes. Everything else I remember checks and the likewise but sometimes get distracted by something when reading the road ahead. Then my CDO will kick in shortly after "did I turn recently? Yes (thumbs switch without looking)"

It stopped me failing my MOD2 Examiner raised that I left the blinkers on at one point and was a second or two from failing, CDO saved me Smile

Although I guess I will go through marginally more indicator switches as the years roll by.

Now it sounds like you’re reversing instead of turning.

I ride a BMW, What's an indicator?

Joke aside, my bike self cancels, but I always check by thumbing the button. I also do the mirror check once turned and cancel and there is a bloody big green light flashing on the dash.

My bike self cancels, but I literally fucking spam the cancel button for no reason at random intervals. SO often.

My wife's car had this, was solved by pulling the rubber sheathing on the indicator stick away from the steering column. Apparently if that's too tight it can cause this.
