Hello, I’ve recently got a TS100 and I cannot get it to start. It has spark (and a new ignition coil), I cleaned the carb yesterday and fit a new air filter. The bike has plenty of compression. The bike currently has no tank but I have tried pouring fuel into both the carb and directly into the cylinder head and it won’t even fire. There is a small pin hole in the fat section of the exhaust however which appears to leaking oil/fuel. Any advice? Thanks

Should also add I’ve never had this bike running

Looking at some Google images this looks like a similar beast to my ol' DT175...

You have spark, nice Thumbs Up You have compression (although I'd be curious to know how you'd qualify that) Thumbs Up That only leaves two things generally: are you getting fuel or is the timing sooooo far off it won't catch?

Dripping a little fuel* straight into the cylinder and popping the spark plug back in should get something: a hint that it might start. Have you tried a rolling start? For example: I had the kicker on wrong on my DT at one point and a few degrees made all the difference for ease of starting.

I'm assuming the timing's done via points? Double check the flywheel is all okay. Something like the woodruff key being sheared - effectively the flywheel would be in the wrong position - is a common occurence on larger engines.

*You really don't need much to get some reaction, don't drown it!

Thanks for your reply. My compression test consists of placing my thumb over the spark plug hole and seeing if it will blow my thumb off lol. Good call on the ignition timing though, I will certainly check that. Can’t really do a rolling start atm as the clutch does not function. I have tried fuel straight into the cylinder but it’s almost as if the fuel disappears, could this be a sign of bad piston rings? If I kick the bike immediately after pouring fuel in the cylinder and placing my hand over the spark plug hole (without the plug in) I feel no fuel spray onto my hand

So you dont know if you have compression then.

Previous owner had it running off a bottle into the carb so I don’t think compression is the issue

It's a 2 stroke, so stop pouring fuel into the spark plug hole. You're just making a puddle under the crank.

Make sure the carb is clean and set up properly. Make sure it is getting 2-stroke oil somehow (either via autolube if fitted, or by using pre-mix). Make sure it has a good spark. If it won't even try to start with those bits in place, you've got some work to do.

It's a 40 year old 2 stroke. All kinds of things could be broken. Doing a proper compression test is your first step in diagnosis.

And emptying the crankcase of petrol....

New plug wouldn't do any harm either.
