Hey as above, I went and bought a 1998 2 stroke Aprilia 125 with very low mileage and rebuilt engine.
I've been riding a Honda cbr125 for 9 months now and was wondering what I need to be doing differently apart from revving the shit out of it so it wont stall.
Should I still rev match when downshifting? Will this make my engine splode!?
I've been told engine braking is bad.

Also I love that smell.

Engine braking isn't bad, it's just pointless.

Avoid riding downhills on a totally closed throttle for a protracted period, blip the throttle periodically to get oil going through.

Your biggest problem will be theft. 2t 125s are slower than 4t ones because you need to carry a huge chain and a 50kg rottweiler to chain it to with you at all times.

Only if running premix and even then you'd need to be descending an Alpine pass on a shut throttle to actually seize the thing.

Let the engine warm up properly before setting off. RS125's (and most 2 strokes) are fragile prima donna's and need to be treated as such.

Engine braking basically does nothing on 2 strokes, you need to use the brakes for that. As Stinkwheel notes, it's pointless.

And I hate to state the obvious, but this is the new bikers section, so - 2 strokes burn oil, hence the intoxicating aroma. You need to keep the 2 stroke oil tank checked and topped up.

WARM IT UP.

Seriously, if you want it to last make sure too warm it up before EVERY ride (i speak from considerable experience). Apart from that they are absolutely fantastic bikes. Loved mine and was sorely tempted to get another last year but a house purchase messed that one up.
