So here's the situation:

- I've just bought a vehicle with a private reg.
- I don't want the reg so I've just done the application to have it removed
- The vehicle was SORNd for a few weeks so now I want to tax it
- I don't have the new V5C yet...

How do I tax it?

Green slip online? Unless the reference has changed, you might get away with it.

Tried that, comes up as a no match with both the old and new reg...

EDIT:
I should clarify. I have the V5C in my name with the old reg but not the new V5C with the new reg

I don't think there is an answer other than waiting for your new V5 to arrive in however many days / weeks / months.

Should have taxed as was then make the changes to registration after.
Then you could have used it, with ants in your pants or without any ants in your pants.

Indeed, it was mentioned in my thread about Covid V5 waiting times

I did eventually get through to the DVLA (after dozens of attepmts) and asked if i could tax it with the VIN number, she said yes, then asked me for the Reg number, and taxed it off that alone

So i cannot confirm or deny it is possible to tax it withthe VIN, but i would suspect so if you can do it on the reg alone

Managed to tax it over the phone.

Took about 25 attempts to get through on the DVLA phone number but they could tax it from the reg and my name and address on the V5.

Yep, they aren't easy to get hold of, but once onto them, it was very straight forward to actually tax mine

I sent my v5 off to DVLA to get new address, due to backlog it hadn't arrived 9 weeks later so after ringing 84 times in a row to get through I managed to tax it over the phone.
