So having a lodger and trying to sort a contract. Can someone please explain this to me in layman's terms? I understand licence fee is the rent, but it becomes unnecessarily confusing beyond that to me.

"the Licence Fee payable without any deduction in advance by standing order on each Payment Date and proportionately
for any period of less than a week, the first such payment being for the period from and including the Licence Fee Commencement Date to the end of the week following such date to be made on......"

Thanks for any help.

They are supposed to pay each week or part week in advance, not arrears.

Assume rent day is Friday

If you move in on Friday, you have to pay a weeks rent that day. By standing order.

If you move in on Tuesday, you have to pay a weeks rent plus 4/7ths of a weeks rent on Friday.

If you move in on Thursday you have to pay a weeks rent plus 1/7th of a weeks rent on Friday.

Licence fee, just worded like that - because of the tenancy status of a lodger.

Known as an "excluded occupier", which is quite low down in the pecking order of tenancy statuses.

If you are the landlord and using template tenancy agreements, just scan an eye over any break clauses there might be etc
