This was an interesting listen. My understanding was slightly different though. Venables didn't just 'blow' his cover, he was caught bragging about it to his girlfriend. Pretty sick.

I'm not in favour of the death penalty but in this case it would have saved a lot of innocent people's money.

The best solution would have been not to release them in the first instance. But then Thomson seems to have stuck with the program.

It's an example of a precedent: someone who, if discovered, would most likely be murdered. And yes, the muppet keeps blowing his own cover and the tax payer had to keep on paying (and will still keep on paying when he gets out) for a new location, new identity etc.

The traitor's defence lawyer will press for similar protections I'm sure.
