Hi,

I've purchased some extra storage (small things like laptop and work stuff) for my commuter and wanted to know if anyone has had any experience attaching wiring to existing wires on this specific bike?

The side boxes have a wire attached to additional brake lights and so I figured I may as well attach them whilst screwing them on.

I've included the link to the purchase for context: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07B6FMXCG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_Ee-yFbEM53N0W

I'm guessing following the brake light wires, cutting the protection and attaching the new wires finished with electrical tape will be enough, but open to suggestions!

My advice: avoid tapping into your brake light circuit with Scotch Lock wire taps. They appear to make a clean connection, but they are unreliable and are not waterproof. Soon your copper colored copper wire will turn green (underneath the insulation, which you cannot see) and you will suffer intermittent problems. I have had good success with barrel type crimp connectors and electrical shrink tubing to seal the splice. Try to locate the splice in a relatively dry location. Soldered splices seem like a good idea, but if the wire is subject to flexing or vibration, the flexible wire will fail right at the solder joint. Crimped connections are usually better on motorcycles and motor vehicles.

You do know that brake lights only get power when
the brakes are applied I hope?

If you mean tail lights, they usually have power when the bike is
switched on and running
BUT
what do you want to power?
Phone chargers sat nav etc might be happy with say a 2A max supply
tapped into the tail light supply
but if you want charge a lappy, this will need something more robust

tldr:
think it through, do it properly or leave it alone
