Morning A/all.

Just in case anyone hasn't seen it - From January 2021 all bikes used on trackdays on MSV circuits must have a front brake lever guard.

Massive overkill in my opinion (I feel the same about them in club racing), but I wouldn't want anyone to either turn up without one or only find out on the intro pack just before the day.

Huge overkill surely - if you're butting up against other riders on the straights or in the bends on an amateur track day then surely something's gone properly awry with the rules of engagement to even get to that point.

Totally agree. I've seen once serious incident caused by someone ramming a front brake lever into another bike and that was in Moto GP about 15 years ago so I don't get why the sudden obsession.

I'm quite angry about this. This is going to absolutely destroy the pitiful amount of 'casual' trackday attendance that there is already. Trackdays will get more serious, as only the people with dedicated track bikes will be able to attend and more and more All the Gear No Idea morons will make trackdays into much more of a snobby cliquey thing to do with your time.

I already hate how seriously some people take trackdays, and this is not going to help.

At under £8 a pair for some token-gesture cheap chinese ones, it's hardly going to break the bank.

It's not about the money though, people are not going to be able to do the "Mate come with me on my trackday in a couple of weeks, there's still spaces?" if they need to order, receive and fit an extra part which is of zero use to road riders.

Up next - compulsory lockwiring of oil filler and sump plug.

I'm considering having a dabble at racing next year if I can sort an ACU course out - mainly because the line between track days and racing is ever narrowing. Every other dickhead in the paddock has tyre warmers and a selection of tires and a late model sports bike with a selection of modifications that would of made it competitive in BSB or Supersport a few years ago. Basically the setup to go racing is directly interchangeable with what an increasing amount of the trackday regulars consider to be the norm. You may as well have a chance of a £2 plastic trophy for your efforts.

Got three mates in my bike club who started club racing within the last three or four years on the principal they'd get more track time with fewer arseholes for less money than trackdays.

All three have independantly stated the first two points are bang on. The third is a very long way from the truth because racing is actually a synonym for "enormous money vortex".

One of them recommended just keeping doing your race licence to get plenty of quality track time.
