I bought the Engage, but this might apply to other SW Motech Tank bags.

We know these tank bags aren’t cheap.
Then there’s the ring you have to buy, and then the lock, currently costing circa £15 + about £3p+p.(24$ total) so I decided not to buy the lock.
After studying the lock, I came up with this idea. A bathroom sink plughole chain and bolt (the bit that secures the chain to the sink)
On the SW Motech Evo models (don't know about the other models) When the bag is on the bike, you pull a wire underneath to release the bag from the tank ring. What this plughole bolt does is pass through the inside of the bag into the release mechanism underneath and jams the release. So with this bolt in, you can pull the release all you like and it wont budge.
Then you use the conventional padlock through the zip ends on the outside of the bag to stop the bag from being opened. Obviously when you need to fuel up you will have to open the padlock, pull the chain release the bag.
Could be useful say, if you stop for coffee or a short break.
Bolt and Chain Cost- about £1.50 (less than 2 $) and easily available.
For those forum members who have already bought a SW Motech tank bag, but not the lock, take the bag off and look underneath, there should be a "spare" hole off centre.
You need a 6mm drill bit to drill up into the bag, (open the Velcro cover that hides the big square plate inside the bag first before you drill. I used a soldering iron to pierce
through the Velcro after.

I genuinely can't decide if this is spam (what's with the interchanging of £ and $) or someone being helpful. Question It's an odd first post if it's genuine help though.

FYI I have the same tankbag and have no issues with the mechanism; the whole point of a quick release is you can take it with you easily when you stop somewhere.

Seems helpful, except that I don't understand it! I don't think it's a plughole salesman on the rampage. The only things I'd say is that perhaps a brass chain rather than a ball chain if there's any hard pull to be done, and: "kitchen sink; bathroom basin".

No its not a spam. Its a genuine attempt to pass on a cheap hack for all
SW.Motech Evo bag users to save them money buying the OEM Lock.
The idea is for all those riders who do not want to carry their SW.Motech tank bag around with them, now have a cheap lock. As for an unusual
first post, Maybe ,but I decided to bypass all the hello I'm from wherever because I choose to. i am not a salesman, nor am I a spammer but i am a fool for trying to help forum members by passing on a tip via this forum,

Quite; no offence intended, we're just so used to random posts often having a spam basis that any unusual posts will get questioned accordingly.

It's a nice hack; not one I'd use personally but I can see it being useful if you don't want your bag to be nicked (although if the tank ring is anything like the one on my crossrunner, it'd bend/break quite easily with upward force).

My tank bag uses the magic that are magnets. No sink plugs required. Laughing
