I can't seem to find a cheap dual sport, only newer CRF250s. I've looked on MCN, Autotrader, Gumtree and eBay.

Is there a dedicated off-road/dual sport website I am unaware of?

I just want to spend a couple grand on a 250 to get into off-roading but it's seemingly impossible to find a lower priced one than the newer CRF's.

Cheers.

Facebook marketplace has the cheapest stuff (for a reason usually).

Couple of grand should get you something easily on any of those sites though..

Dr350/400/Klr/XL/XT350/600 also worth looking at.

your problem is that lots of peeps want an off road type as a second bike .. had that same conversation last week .. his budget was £800 - 1200 .. anything serviceable will be kept and the dilapidated sheds sold on ..

Best I've found is a DRZ400 2004, 20414 miles, £2700.

I'm not good with bike values on older dual sports.

Seems to be plenty on Facebook, just have to travel a further afield though.

I was tempted at the CRF250 but felt underwhelmed here by performance.
I'd had a KMX125 derestricted before, being a 2 stroke I felt a 4 stroke 250 wouldn't be that much of a step up.
I'm probably wrong but my thinking led me to get a DRZ400.

Yep, that one. I'd rather not travel too far out.

I had a similar problem when looking for a WR450 or a WR250, I though it was me just going mad or maybe looking in the wrong places but there seems to be very few used on the marked. DRZ400s do seem to be more abundant than anything else though so you've a better chance of finding one local than anything else.

I generally avoid Gumtree and Facebay, as Tdibs said there's usually a very good reason why stuff gets listed so cheap. AutoTrader is always my first port of call and failing that will turn to eBay if I can't find what I'm looking for. Seems to be just a load of shit and on Gumtree and Facebay.

Yeah, it's definitely hard to find a decent one nearby.

Looks ok?

Anyone know what the deal is when buying from ebay if the bike is not as advertised?

Same as it would be with AutoTrader or any private ad I would assume. Any problems you take it up with the seller. Pretty sure eBay don't do their 100% buyer guarantee thing on the sale of vehicles.

The bike looks ok but it's almost impossible to tell from a photo. Best advice I can give is buy as local as possible. If a seller knows you've come a long way they're:
1) Less likely to be negotiable as they know you're keen on the bike and unlikely to go home empty0handed (or if you do travel a long way don't let them know that, just say you're local or visiting friends or family locally and just passing by with a casual interest).
2) More likely not to disclose any hidden nasties. If a seller knows/thinks you're local he/she may be worried about you coming back knocking on the door so probably more likely to be straight up with you.

Shit I just saw that bike is in Maidstone (which is where I'm from, well, very near there, just outside the town in a village that has a Maidstone postal address)!

And I'd settle for a DRZ400 if I couldn't get a WR450F as a second bike!

Fancy getting into a bidding war with me over this bike? Dance!

Presume you're local to me then?

This problem has been growing over the last few years. Green laning was never popular enough to warrant manufacturers keeping a decent bike in their line up when the euro 3/4/5 came along. If you want a toy (and that is what it is) you have to pay. It's why 15 year old drzs are going for as much as they cost new.

Surely they'll know my address if I purchase it? Unless that doesn't count for vehicles since they aren't posting it. I'm in SE London so I'm not exactly local but I would be around an hour away I reckon.

Let's get into a bidding war where you win then send it to me. Razz
