how much do you care about comfort? if you are over 6ft and pretty heavy you will soon hate a super sports in "street traffic", out of all the "super sports" i would say a cbr 600f (4i is the best) or a gsxr600 is the most comfy and more midrange grunt, R6 and the ZX6R are horrible to ride but if you are a midget they might be OK.

If I had the choice I would go for a street triple or MT07/09 (09 being my preference out of the 3 after riding all 3 )

Custard test all 32 you claim to own then.

Only thing you've ever ridden is a pillow with a photo of your mother stuck to it and even that was disappointed.

If you really want a supersports bike, get one.

It's quite hard to get a consensus opinion from other motorcycle riders, in general. Travelling at speed is a particularly tetchy subject. Everyone's got their own opinion about it, but at the end of the day, you get to pick the opinions you want to hear, but it won't be a consensus.

You probably won't get the best out of a supersports without track training. Then again, that might not be important to you. There are quite a few new riders who buy powerful and fast bikes as a first bike, and then ride very, very cautiously everywhere, abiding by every speed limit. Personally, I don't get it. If that's the way you lean, you will find yourself taking advice from selected sources to support your personal preferences and beliefs. Just be conscious of the fact that YOU are selecting them and that they are not absolutes, or gospel truth.

Just an example I've been thinking about recently: the IAM teaches safe overtaking techniques. You can learn these techniques and they will make you safer while conducting the statistically dangerous maneuvre of overtaking. But you can, equally, find an opposing view saying that nobody needs to overtake or do a little over the speed limit, ever, and anyone who does is a "beta male". If that doesn't strike you as a weird thing to say, then maybe it's just the view you wanted to hear, and so it sounded louder even if it was just a lone voice and was less authoritative in real terms than the IAM. This is just an example of how we select advice to suit ourselves. We can so easily dress up weakness as strength, and vice versa, to appear (to ourselves) to be the best and wisest being on the road, when that simply isn't the case. For all I know, there could be a beginner who could jump on an R1 and extract every bit of performance on that within a month, and never crash in a riding career of 50/60 years thereafter. He would simply be a better rider than me.

The fact is, someone can be cautious and careful, and be much less safe than someone who is less cautious and careful but who is more skilful and experienced. Everyone has different levels of ability, but at the end of the day, it's you sitting there on a bike and nobody else is responsible for your safety. A supersports can be ridden safely by a beginner, but if I say I find it a bit pointless, well that's just my opinion, isn't it. Good luck

And reading that I’m thinking if only the rider was more capable he could have positioned his body better and had the same corner speed with less lean angle not having to worry about the bikes capabilities.........which were just fine!

Hanging off an Enfield isn't a good idea - might scuff your brogues.

In order to prove both stories, can we have a coffin test rather than a custard test?

I'd prefer open coffin, btw.

Remember we have photo evidence of what you choose to ride.

I'd keep it buttoned, son.

The best tool for commuting I've ever used was the Exup valdes (FZR1000 to the uninitiated.)

Yes it destroyed my elbows, wrists, shoulders and hips but by christ was it wicked at filtering and the mental acceleration meant that cutting through traffic was a breeze.

If I were 20 years younger I'd still be riding a race rep for commuting.

What is this 'season' of which you speak?

That'll be barely 1/2 a day per bike assuming weekends only and 32 bikes. He must bitch about the typical summer weather of rain followed by more rain and the number of optimisers he had to buy.

If they even exist anywhere other than his fevered mind.

The Hornet 600 isn't a bad shout for a first bike. I had one when I passed my test, comfy and forgiving. But I wanted to go faster and fancied something larger (I'm 6ft 2, 15st) so bought a Blackbird within 6 months.

But get what you want to get. a CBR600RR is going to be a hell of a lot more fun than your 125 you currently have and plenty quick enough/nimble around town.
