Hi,

Can you not get a loan to pay all the debts off instead of a specialised one?

Avoid IVA like the plague, it's not the happy bunny meadow solution that they make it seem.

Very, they're scum suckers, you'll pay a fortune back.

It all depends on how bad the debt it.

Try and slash costs everywhere, got any sellable assets? Find a cheaper house? Anything you can think of that you're overspending on, stop, and work out an action plan.

Hmmm...

But! It's my 'friend' that's thinking of it, and my 'friend' should be moving out of the country by the end of the year with no plans to come back.

I'm assuming you could be deported for fraud back here. . . . And never is a very long time to be sure. Debt consilidators secure thier loans against your house, if you don't repay they will get thier money back.

this opotion is for the really brave who dont need credit for a while and only works on unsecured debts/ loans

you've been warned!

simply dont pay! the originally lender will chase for a few months, then they sell the debt to a debt recovery firm. the debt recovery work on margins they buy £10k debt for £5k, then chase you for the money anything they get over £6k is a bonus.

they will offer repayment schedules and offer reduced final settlement figures for a quick pay off.

just remeber your credit rating will be absoluted fu(ked.

Here's what the Citizens Advice Bureau has to say about them. There may be other advice you might find helpful there too.

Phew, thank you very much for signing up to a motorcycle forum and offering such valuable advice as your one contribution. I’ve been wondering what to do about this issue for the last 14 1/2 years since this thread was created.

The more interesting question, is octane still in the country, either because he never left, he returned voluntarily or has been dragged back in again? Question
