Hey guys, sitting my handling test soon and looking for some advice for a bike. It would be mainly for city use with some use around coastal windy roads, up small suburb hill roads and the occasional motorway if I am visiting parents

So I have been told (and can see from the stats) the GSX 250 R has a bit of a weak engine, I live in NZ so the roads aren't the straightest or widest so I'm not sure if top speed is going to be as much of an issue as it would be in America (where most reviews I have seen have been from ).

Thing is this bike is also a good 1.8 grand to 3 k cheaper than the other bikes I have looked at getting, (with it being reduced in price) the R3 being at around 7.5k NZD and the ninja 400 at 8. something NZD I start playing on the Wildz online casino like on this page https://bestcasinos-ca.com/reviews/wildz-casino.php and hope to buy good cycle and want to spend good money for it. So the question is.

Is this really such a bad bike for me to get?

What's the second hand market for bikes like over there? In the UK there's usually a decent bike to be found within riding distance of most places - I prefer used bikes because that first hit of depreciation is severe. I also try to buy private sale bikes rather than dealers.

Any of the bikes you mentioned will be fine for narrower, minor roads imo. Just don't expect them to be night and day different from a 125. They're more realistically viewed as an incremental step. Not necessarily a bad thing, but worth bearing in mind - if only to damp expectations down.

As trevor stated it's difficult for us to know what the used bike marked is like out there, I think I'm right in saying the vast majority of users on here are from the UK.

I have a very limited experience of 250s. I rode a CBR250RR back from Birmingham to Maidstone (3 hours, vast majority of which motorway) and it was fucking painful hard work. The bike just isn't cut out for effortless cruising.

I don't know what the licence regulations are out there etc. but if you can with the licence you have I would try to get something at least 30kw / 40bhp. In the UK we have an A2 licence category which you can ride from 19 years of age (21 years old onwards you can take full unrestricted bike licence), bikes you can ride on an A2 licence can be no more than 35kw / 47bhp. In my limited experience of riding these bikes, that's roughly the minimum amount of power I think you need to keep you interested, enjoying the ride and enough power to make the ride effortless but not too much to make it dangerous in the wrong hands. Well any bike can be dangerous in the wrong hands but you know what I mean, these bikes won't take you by surprise.

So yeah, something like a CB500X would be ideal if you can afford it. That's the bike I would buy if I was looking in the A2 category. Failing that maybe a power-restricted naked upright 600 like a FZS600 or FZ6 if your licence allows it in NZ.

If I lived in NZ, I'd be all over the Honda VTR 250 Interceptor.

What's a "weak engine"? One that blows up a lot?

It seems to be able to do 85+MPH, has reasonable economy, and handles well, according to reports. I can't see a big reason not to have one.
