Hi

My old gaming PC is running windows 7 ultimate but l am currently locked out of the admin account due to my wife changing the password earlier in the year which she forgot (had a argument over me spending too much time on the PC last winter and she locked the account).

This has not been too much of a worry as l have been busy working this year up to last week when l ended up having to have emergency surgery on my back and now with me being off work for the next few months would like to get back into the PC. I have tried various youtube videos and guides with out any luck.

Does any one know of any sure way to get back into the admin account, I do not want to wipe the PC clean as l have important documents on the PC which l can not currently access.

Thanks,

Is the data encrypted? If not you're better off creating a new system - either a replacement PC or new system drive in the old PC with a fresh O/S. Then attach the old drive and you can just copy off the files you need.

If you need it to actually boot the easiest way is replacing the accessibility manager with command prompt and that gives you effectively a system level account to do whatever you like with. This method would work if your home folder is encrypted.

If the entire drive is encrypted you're pretty fucked AFAIK.

If you have access to another pc, you could create a linux usb boot drive, then boot your old pc from this and access your hard drive Thumbs Up

https://www.isunshare.com/windows-7-password/reset-windows-7-password-with-command-prompt.html

Option 2 is the easiest assuming your disk isn't encrypted.

If you can't get direct access to the built-in admin account, run the below and it will create a new user account called Admin with the password of Password123, and add it to the Administrators groups.

net user Admin Password123 /add
net localgroup administrators Admin /add

Under-rated bit of kit.
