I have an early 1980's DR125S I have been given that I want to renovate. I don't have a reg. No. or V5 for it.
Before I spend any money on it I want to make sure it's not nicked and to try to get the original reg information.
Is there a way of getting the reg details for it using the Frame no.?

TBH I'm not sure.
Believe discussed on here before, inconclusive result.

The VIN should give you the year of manufacture, country of origin, etc. (google vin decoder for example). From that you could apply for an age related registration plate and V5.

Doesn't answer if nicked though. Not sure, other than contacting police, who may or more likely will not, be helpful. I don't know of a database you could put the number into.

I guess my other problem is that the Frame number is in this format - SF41A-xxxxxx - so not a 17 digit VIN. I have a dating letter for it from Suzuki Owners .. but would be so much easier if I could locate the original reg. no. and just apply for a V5 so avoiding the DVLA nightmare experience.

Unfortunately Yodi drew a blank so back to the drawing board.
I did speak to another guy who is selling an 80's DR125 and even though his frame no. is SF41Axxxxxx it is on the V5 as DR125SZ00xxxxxx. This has thrown a huge spanner in the works as there were 3 models SZ, SD and SE so god knows what the correct number would be .. guess I'll have to either apply for an age related reg. no. OR move it on.
Anyhow .. thanks for the help

A question asked to the importer should give the info. It did for me when Yamaha told me the reg of a yb100 from the frame number.

The Importer no longer exists as such - It was Heron Suzuki back then and apparently all their records were destroyed.
I sold it on via EBay and bought a Twin Shock Suzuki DR500S which is much more fun Wink

have you tried VIN checker:

https://uk.vin-info.com/vinchecker

You can find stolen status and some other details.
