You might have some luck with something like Boyer Bransden, or Pazon ignitions. Best to pop them an email.

Funny, 6V to 12V conversions as kits are quite common on the ol' DT but then magnetos are much easier to work with. The consensus on the Interwebs is find a 12V stator and associated electronics from a similar/newer model. What that model is I couldn't say ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

No the bike doesn't run; it's been in pieces for the better part of a decade. I am reviving an old hobby of building classic custom motorcycles and very little of the bike is still stock. Basically, I want to modernise the bike technically but still keep the old school look (sort of).
I plan on running LED lights and indicators with "classic" digital gauges so a decent 12v system is a must. The original wiring loom and electrics are shot anyway so I'll be making the loom from scratch and replacing whatever needs to be replaced.
I know what I want to accomplish, it's the how to get there that I am working on. |

Ah, fair enough.
Well you know what you need for 12V, a stator that fits and then conjure up all the associated bits like reg/rec, indicator relay, switch gear, etc.
The electronic ignition though... I suspect you'll need a plate with some optical or inductive pickup to sit in place of the gubbins where the points used to be. You can then feed that onto a CDI. Sounds expensive given Google mostly showing Americans making such things "off the peg."
By all means crack on with the 12V upgrade but you might just want to get the original ignition system going for now. ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

That's already been taken care of my man. That was indeed one of the first things to go. I've had a two piston hydraulic system fabricated for it. The new setup is more than enough to cope with the engine moifications that have been done. There was a time I had more money than sense and had the engine capacity maxed out to it's limits, and fully built by a reputable engineering shop. Who knows, it might even be faster than my wife's KTM Duke 125

Let's just assume I know nothing because it's not far from the truth. It's a labour of love though so I am fully empbracing the challenge.

However the electrics were still 6v , but it's a start - |
I did find a couple of posts talking about the XL185 and XR200 motors having electronic ignition but I am not sure if every one of them had EI or only models made after a certain year.
The motor is a bit of a frankenstein now. The bottom end has been modified to take a much larger crank, the bore has been significantly increased to accept a 65.5mm Wiseco piston to mate with a 2-port head from an XL185 or XR200. |
