Not at all. Laughing
The last time I ate porridge (made properly by my grandmother) I was probably 8 or 9 years old. I might have made it once or twice myself in my early teens (but I was much more into cornflakes by then) and then since I got to London, I discovered "instant" porridge.

That one plateful in the morning kept me going until well beyond lunchtime. I ended up cooking a squash mid-afternoon but I wasn't hugely hungry. Then I wasn't interested in food for the rest of the day, and ended up chucking out the remainder.

It was so good, I might have to do it again.

I have two gear oilings today.

One:
A random bloke emailed me last week asking if I could do some extras-filming at fairly short notice. We had arranged for it to be tomorrow.
But this morning at around 9am, he messaged me again to ask if I could do today - as well as tomorrow - because one of his extras had called in with a covid-isolation crisis.

So I spent the day pretending to be a lady writing fraudulent cheques. Shocked
If, in several months, you see this, and you're like, "OMG that's Jen (!!)" please remember that I am only acting Laughing

Can't remember what tomorrow's episode is about (he did tell me, but I was having a whale of a time today that I have forgotten) ... but I'll only be "acting"* in that too.

*cos, actually, I am hopeless at real acting Laughing

Did you manage to sneak the cheque book out from the set?

Tragically, they were just small pieces of paper with cheque-shaped printing on the front

1/2 a mug of rolled oats or oatmeal. 1 mug of water or a bit more if you like thinner porridge.

If you make it in a microwave it needs to stand for a bit I think. If you make to much, you can reheat it next day and it is actually better.

My opinion.... Smile

I boil the kettle for my morning coffee and porridge, saves sodding about with microwaves, which tend to create porridge art. 5 tablespoons of oats, teaspoon of powdered milk, teaspoon of sugar. Add hot water, stir, leave a couple of minutes, stir, eat.

Excuse me, I also added salt in my original batch.

Now I have comparative recipes, I shall try them and ascertain the best method.
Note to self: why have I got no powdered milk. It would be very helpful on those days when the four-pinter goes off before I finish using it all.

I do not add any salt, it is bad for the blood pressure. It's OK with a couple of grains of coarse sea (or road, same thing) salt, but not much. But I don't do that.

You can have some milk on it, or some sugar. Both if you want to be doubly decadent. Cream, even. Edit: where is that "raises eyebrow" smiley?

I prefer porridge made on the hob. As above, equal quants of milk, water and oats. Sometimes throw in a chopped up ripe banana for the last few minutes of cooking and it softens nicely.

A Scottish friend swears by long cooking time for porridge, overnight is optimal apparently! Shocked Don't think I'd want to clean that saucepan afterwards.

Sort of a slow motion alternative to de-glazing the pan I guess.

The power of water in soaking stuck-on grot overnight is indeed as you say wonderful.

The "cook overnight" that Mr Guts worries about does not (as you know) mean leaving the pan on the heat overnight! Anyway, sometimes I leave porridge in the slow oven (which is on all the time) overnight, and it's excellent; a good reason not to make it with any milk in, because then it turns out like a tin of boiled condensed milk, and tastes funny. Yesterday's porridge, reheated (perhaps with a little more water), is generally better than newly-made.

You can do it faster with a wire cup brush and an angle grinder
