A friend has broadband downstairs and uses a powerline adapter as he lives in an old house and wireless won't work.

He has a PS4 an Xbox, smart tv and PC that all use the internet. He has 1x connector in his powerline adapter (plug in internet over household wires).

He wants to know if he buys this...

Will he be able to connect one lead to his power adapter and fill the other ports with Xbox Ps4 and smart TV and PC?

If not, what would he need?

Not used a power line adapter but yes in general if you have 1 network socket, you would run a wire from it to port 1 on the hub and then plug your devices into ports 2-5.

Each will get its own IP from the router attached via port 1.

The limitation is that all the traffic has to get through the single wire on port 1, think of it as a 4 lane motorway trying to get the same traffic down a country lane.

However, going by the devices its unlikely he'll be using all of them at once.

Yes that would work. Its still maxed out at one point so as long as hes not smashing everything at the same time he'll be fine, not many people can run a gig anyway

I run powerline at home. Both sides plug into 1Gb/s switches, and it works fine. Obviously max speed will be limited to the speed of the Powerline connection, but it'll be fine for streaming etc.

Switches work fine with powerline adaptors.

You can also get powerlines with 2 or 3 ports.
