Got a call about ‘Project Scrappy Hyosung’.
T’was good news Smile .
The electrics to the engine are okay and the engine is now running Smile Smile .

Happy Pepperami is happy.

This means I have a viable machine.
Now I can start on the calipers , forks , and swinging arm.

This is not going to be a shiny restoration.
Swinging arm will be painted.
New swinging arm bushes & shock absorber bushes.
Caliper overhaul.
Will have a look at the forks and make a decision?
Headrace bearings?, we’ll see?.

But she lives Thumbs Up , yay!!

The imternet, seriously oiled my gears today.

I was sold a watch as not working, I tried a new battery and still no joy.

Now this is an obscure swiss movement from the 70's. After a google is tells me you have to short the movement out to reset it.

Fuckit I have nothing to lose.

By fuck it works! A £10 watch is now worth £250 because it works!

So thank you to the person who found out that shorting the movement sorts it and thank you for finding the time to publish it to the world!

Asian it certainly is.
You’ve never owned one or ridden one?
I’ve own a GT250R for ten years now and it’s been good as gold.

Cheap and nasty? Not the worst bike I’ve ever owned , I’ve had Brit and old Jap bikes that were worse.
I’m guessing you’ve only read stuff on the internet.

I guess I’m putting time and effort into my Project Scrappy Hyosung 125 because my GT250R has been such a good bike.
This is all subjective, if I have had of wanted a super super super shiny shiny show pony with mega-powaar, I would have bought something else.
Me , I’m happy with my cheap and nasty Asian Hyosung gt125 Thumbs Up
I got it for peanuts and it’s keeping me sort of occupied during lockdown.

Took the XSR out for a spin into the centre of town and back. First proper distance I've done since getting it before Crimbo!

It was on the way back, coming down the hill from Roehampton, that rain started: cold and just shy of sleet Sad I instinctively hugged the bike for some warmth and it was like a light switch going on: up till this point I'd unintentionally/unimaginatively been riding the bike much the same as the Rebel Shocked Outwardly they'd be no observable transition - just a subtle shift in weight, a slightly bend in the elbow - but it was memory of what an angry little bike the MT-07 was when I did my A licence training Smile

Other than that epiphany a very useful day. Some crossing lights changed at that annoying point where you could either fly by or pull up abruptly. I chose the latter and was quite surprised how much rear brake you can apply without either the back wheel sliding or the ABS kicking in. On that topic the ABS certainly does work as a van slammed on its anchors and then indicated right Rolling Eyes At this point it was pretty wet and I was using 50/50 front & back.

Everything worked as expected, continued faith in the bike, no falling off required Wink

My local community raised £3000 through GoFundMe for the Tesco’s trolley boy after his Honda CB500 was stolen over Christmas. He’s a hard-working, friendly lad who now feels appreciated.

Just when you thing humans are bastards they go and surprise you.

I've had 2 successive decent days.

No rhyme or reason to it....which ironically pisses me off.

I think I've used my old Skoda twice in the last month but this last time I noticed the gearstick is... sticky Laughing Specifically the left/right travel. No problem actually getting it in gear so I mostly got by on muscle memory on my trip to and from Tesco.

First video on YouTube is from "bodget & leggit garage" nice Smile Bless 'im the guy filmed near enough all of the stuff involved including being sent totally the wrong part and completely fucking up the "it just unclips" so it turned into a what not to do video Laughing

Anyhoo, the job is made easier if you take the battery out and as it's been running the factory original for the last 10 years / 100,000 miles I might treat the car to a new one. Cost of replacing the gear linkage bracket... £5. Lovely jubbly Very Happy

It just needs the bracket removing (locking clip on it) the alloy housing corrodes and starts to grip the bracket, if its a fabia the bracket is metal and has 2 nylon bushes if its an octavia it may be plastic and a bit snappy when trying to remove it.. no new parts needed just a bit of penetrating oil and some patience, clean the corrosion away from the inside of the alloy with a pipe brush or a drill bit turned by hand.
I've done literally hundreds of them as I work for a skoda specialist.

Ironically I think the part you speak of is the one he got sent first. It's not that one Smile This is an all-plastic bracket with the cable on one end, a pivot point on the gearbox and a white plastic runner. Yes, I could take it off and clean the whole area but given it seems - from the video - very easy to break it in the removal I thought £5 a good investment for a backup plan. But yes, cleaning the mounting point on the gearbox is the main issue.

<edit> as you've done this before is it worth packing the pivot point with lithium or silicone grease or just clean it out and leave it dry?

I couldn't choose a favourite. Too many great tunes!

Great to play on the guitar. I haven't picked mine up in over a year, just listening to stuff instead, but every now and then an artist will fire me up again, and it's often Rory. Him or SRV, especially the Live at the El Mocambo gig, Gallagher Live at Cork.

Out on the bike after doing some minor maintenance, needed some tea bags. It was still sunny so I stopped by to see a friend on the way back. Chatted bikes and shit till the sun went down (outside, social distanced, etc.)

For playing on the geetar, I like Bought and Sold, especially doing the intro from the live version from the Stage Struck album. One of the things that I liked so much about Rory - every time he played a tune, there would be something different. Very much a 'feel' player, in the moment.

Removed all of the torx bolts from the front discs today and everyone came out relatively easily, no swearing, chewed bolts or anything.

Swapped the 300mm discs for some 320s and put the better calipers on.

Just need some new hoses now and we're almost good to go, or will be after I buy a new pot of loctite, take the bolts out again, add a dab of new loctite and put them back in (ran out of loctitie Embarassed )
