So we all know how to keep dry on the bike, allegedly?
Personally I wear a pac-a-Mac under my jacket and try not to be out in the rain.

How do you lot remain warm when out touring/camping with the bike.
Any specific or particular types/brands of clothing you use that works particularly well.
Packing space on a bike is limited, so after the tent and sleeping bag, what else.

I don’t usually camp when out touring on the bike, however if I’m going to get back into it, a few pointers might help Thumbs Up

Merino wool base layers, then mid layers, then top layers. Simply amazing stuff. Has to absorb 30% of its weight in water before it feels wet and even then still keeps you warm.

Lidl/Aldi do it periodically, usually in their cycling promotions.

I also have icebreaker t-shirts, again merino. Feels like normal t-shirt material. Pack down to nothing and you can wear one for a week or more without it stinking (you stink, but if you have a wash and put it back on, you're good to go). Super expensive, I only buy them in sales.

In any case, it's all about the layers. Also avoid cotton, as soon as it gets damp, it sucks the heat out of you.

A set of gaiters can make a surprising amount of difference at keeping your legs warm. Eliminates draughts up your trousers and is an effective bar to water going up the trouser then down the boot.

I'm off to the Dragon rally next month. If it's cold I will be wearing merino long johns, knee-length sealskinz socks, leather trousers, gore-tex trousers and altberg boots. On top I'll have a merino base layer, icebreaker t-shirt, merino top layer, a fleece, leather jacket and a waterproof jacket. I'll have BMW atlantis 3 gloves and bar muffs.

I’ve thought about this a few times but not bothered.
Time to give this a second look Thumbs Up .

At this time of year I prefer more MX style boots, if intending to walk far or look like a 'normal' person on arrival usually go with army style boots and then the draught issue can strike. What sort of gaiters - like walkers wear?

On the bike?

A good fairing, heated grips and the best thing ever, heated seats.

On my Trophy I can ride in winter with my IXS jacket, leggins and decent boots, nothing much else special.

I can't take the cold anymore so heated stuff and a really good waterproof textile coat is necessary for me.

Or the car.

+1 for merino wool, but you need to keep out the wind too. I have a paper-thin Pertex top which does the job admirably. I sometimes use a Rab Generator jacket under the bike jacket which has a Pertex outer and Primaloft insulation which like merino, still keeps you warm if it gets wet, and is quick-drying.

Yes. Don't need to be fancy. In fact, I'd say the more plasticy, the better in terms of waterproofness. Remember buckles/zips to the outside of your leg.

Shorts, wifebeater, flip-flops and baseball cap worn backwards seem to be the preferred mode of ATGATT here. Cool

And sunnies, mustn't forget them!

I just use my outdoor walking/climbing kit under my motorcycle textiles; synthetic base layers, fleeces if necessary, wool-rich mountain socks etc. - I have merino top/bottoms but have never felt the need to wear them on a motorbike, even when it's near to 0 degrees. Outdoor kit is designed to be used in cold, wet and windy conditions - it works well. Mountain Warehouse is pretty cheap and Aldi stuff sometimes, but Aldi stuff can be a naff fit and badly fitting layers don't sit well under jackets.

Heated grips and a plug in keis jacket. The rest of the stuff should be waterproof with a winter lining. Good neck protection
