Currently driving a laptop in the dining room because COVID but prior to that, Triumph Sprint ST, FZR1000Exup, FZ750.

The exup was the best for filtering but I was slowly being crippled by it. The engine crapping itself after 10k miles after being built was a relief to be honest.

Isn't the xvs950 a lardy v twin?

Having commuted on everything but a cruiser from 125 to 1200cc, I can honestly say it's your age, shape and size and the right bike that makes it enjoyable or not. My 40 miles a day to work and home on a duke 790 is brilliant, the time spent riding it following a moped at 20ish mph on a cbt is a little less so.

Too long on sportsbikes and off-roaders means I can't get on with the foot forward riding position as it seems to make no sense when you want handling.

What year is your Duke 790? I was considering getting a Duke 890R (or an MT-09), do you think it would be alright for a bigger guy? The KTM is a good bit more expensive than the Yamaha, was wondering if it's worth it or not over the MT.

The 790 didn't change really apart from colour in the 2 1/2 yrs its been around. The 890 is more powerful, but when there are new 790s still around for £7.5k, its a no brainer. It is brilliant, I'm 6foot and 120kg+ and it's fine.

Against the mt09, I prefer it (it is lighter and a bit better on fuel) because it's quieter. Also quieter than the adventure 790, or my old tiger 800, or the wife's bike (dont think I've ridden anything as quiet up to speed limits). It wouldn't be my first choice to tour on as there's little weather protection. But, that's it's only downside.
