Only you can answer that one mate.

It's a no from me, but I'm a psycho that will fork out 10k for an ancient Italian shopping moped.

I think it comes down to 2 things, price and ornamentation.

For some, 2 grand is a lot to spend on an 80's moped, for some it's little more than their council tax for the year.

In terms of ornamentation, are you ever going to ride it ? I had a MB50 back as a teenager..... I thought it was the nuts, but I suspect after riding it for 3 minutes at 5hp in 2021, I'd be happy to hand it back to its owner.

They were never a particularly attractive bike, so I'm not sure how long you'd stare at it, before locking it back in the garage ....

They are however, ridiculously easy to maintain, so you'd probably enjoy running it for a while, maybe upgrading it with a few (tasteful) period mods ....... ?

I loved this bl00dy thing ...

I still have a moped, I managed to hide one of these bad-boys into the garage without the misses noticing, back in 2010 ....

Small bikes are the nuts ....

You say that like the two are mutually exclusive...

It is down to personal preference but if you want a small two banger £1800 would get you a two year old aprilia sx50 which will have far superior brakes/wheels/chassis & a much more tunable water cooled engine. I don't think there's many 50s that achieve classic status at least not until they get to 40-50 years old. But as said above £1800 is a lot of money for a bit of nostalgia.

Old dirt bikes seem particularly overpriced at the moment. 50cc doesn't sound particularly useful either, at least an old 250 can hold its own on a patch of dual carriageway. For green laning a 125 from the same era would be much more fun.
