Hello to all, I'm new to the forums and I was looking for some help with my bike, I've recently picked up a 2008 Yamaha YBR 125 the fuel injected model.
The problem im having is once you turn the key the fuel pump primes as normal but its difficult to start and normally fires up on the second push of the starter button, does this sound like a normal 125 fi start up from cold??
Anyway once the bike is started and its warm its spluttering when giving it some revs, the guy I bought it from said he's done the valve clearances, could these be too tight??
I also received the bike with very minimal fuel in it and I think its possibly been sat since its last MOT ran out on the 03/03/20, could it be a case of bad or low fuel in the tank??

Any input is greatly appreciated Very Happy

I'd put some more fuel in and then take it for an Italian tuneup before I looked at anything else.

Fresh fuel, new spark plug. Then see what occurs.

2008 eh?
Plenty old enough to have suffered at the hands of its owners
how many miles?

As well as the aformentioned fresh fuel and new plug, check valve clearances
when cold (0.10mm inlet 0.12mm exhaust)
It may have a somewhat sticky injector too so some injector cleaner in the fuel wont hurt.
Good clean electrical connections are advised too.
open check and squish some switch cleaner in them

DONT twist the throttle when you try and start it either!
efi engines dont like that

For the uninitiated, an "Italian tuneup" is a high speed run. Running an engine for a moderate period at or near its rated power output will help clear out any carbon deposits that may have accumulated in the combustion chamber or exhaust. It will also allow prolonged fuel flow to flush out your fuel system; more effective if you have added the aforementioned injector cleaner to your fuel.

The YBR makes rated hp (10 hp) at 7800 rpm. You will achieve maximum air flow through the engine and maximum fuel delivery at full throttle at 7800 rpm. On my YBR with stock gearing, that occurs right near 60 mph in fifth gear, 55 mph in fourth. Regardless the gear, any time you have the YBR throttle pinned at 7800 rpm, the engine is making all the power it can. I recommend you maintain this speed for 30 to 60 minutes, if possible.

Fresh batch of oil won't hurt either.

+1 here. Especially since you just acquired the bike recently. Unless you know the service history of the bike, changing the engine oil and brake fluid will give you baseline documentation for future services. Plus, you will know positively that the oil and brake fluid meet the requirements for your bike. Wouldn't hurt to give the bike a once-over. Lube and adjust the cables, check the brake pad/brake shoe wear, check sprocket wear and lube the chain. The YBR has a wear level indicator arrow on the rear brake lever, but there are posted reports of rear brake lockup caused by crud building up inside the drum brake, affecting brake shoe release. Better to eyeball the brake shoe condition and clean the brake if necessary.
