That I can remember right now.........

Stephane Grappelli twice (once with Diz Disley, the other with Martin Taylor, the guitar connections)
Buddy Rich
Stevie Wonder
Michael Jackson
ELO
David Bowie
George Michael
Elton John
Frank Sinatra (sadly well past his best)

They're the ones I would consider to be greats on a global scale - there's a few others that would probably be considered greats in the UK, or to followers of particular genres, some of which I saw completely by accident, some before they were famous.

You did go for big names!
Although I have seen some acts in large venues, I prefer smaller pubs and clubs for seeing live music, which is why I haven't seen that many really big names I think.

He's getting the hang of that, isn't he? Laughing
Christ, I'm still struggling with getting good vibrato at the top of bends, now I have to bend two strings in different directions at the same time?!
Hah, I notice he didn't put vibrato on them though. Bleedin' amateur Laughing

I wonder where that interview was from? BBC?

Vai's a funny one for me. I first heard him with David Lee Roth on his first two albums after VH. Still love some of the licks and fills he was doing on those. But I could never get into Vai's own work.
He's undoubtedly a stunningly talented guitarist, but something about his music just misses it for me, every time I dip in to try to listen again.

Josh Smith is fast becoming one of my favourites. Here with Eric Gales (like Albert King, guitar turned around to play lefty, thick strings on the bottom). The jazz influences in here are just the kind I look to add into blues, rather than going full-on jazz.

Or here mixing up blues, jazz and country influences. Some nice bass work too:

Nice groove to this one:

And a slow blues in the studio:

Still on a bit of a Josh Smith and Eric Gales jag. But I guess no one else is listening to these guys, so I'm going to talk to myself for a minute here Smile

Eric Gales is a funny one. I have two albums of his, and they're both good, pretty straight blues/rock albums. But every time I look for live performances on da toob, he never seems to play tunes all the way through, sometimes just hints at something, usually other players and bands compositions - might be Hendrix, might be Led Zep, might be AC/DC, but then goes off into improvisations all over the place. All astounding playing, but it just seems to be whatever comes into his head in a given moment, unpredictable. Could get funky, jazzy, classical, anything. Definitely a crowd pleaser when solo, always interacting with the audience. But sometimes I just feel like shouting at him, "play a whole tune, damn you!" Laughing

Then, my current favourites are when he takes the stage with Josh - then you get some fire! Very different styles. Josh on the one hand, clean, melodic but inventive, always seems to be on the money. Then Eric - a bit more raw, edgy...sometimes you think he's totally experimenting with stuff he's never tried before...is he gonna hold it together?...and sometimes a hint that he hasn't and quickly shifts to regain control...compelling listening. But playing with others, Eric has to see the tunes through at least!

Those two really push each other. I kind of think they should get in a studio collaboration for an album or two...but would the fire still be there in a studio setting? Whatever, I think the results would be worth hearing.

Then I'm led to sets with those two, and Kirk Fletcher (straighter blues playing, but sweet) and Joe Bonamassa (technically amazing, but sometimes too clean, no rough edges, every single note clear and sharp) ...and that's the evening gone Very Happy

Next day...can I just listen to a band playing some songs please? Laughing Until I spot a vid of those guys I haven't seen yet...

Mind blown by Eric Gales' solo on a cover of Jimi's "Little Wing" :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8Um31Vu7kQ

He walked in half way through the set, sat down (lefty player on standard borrowed guitar so strap in wrong place for him), played on two tunes, took a bow, and left a stunned and speechless audience to enjoy the rest of the gig played by the others.
Set up by a shy Kirk Fletcher not wanting to take the first solo, but then under pressure playing probably the best thing I've seen him play to date. Followed by the man from another universe, Gales.

Not a great quality video, but you'll get the picture, as it were.

Just discovered Greg Koch. Here, have an hour and a half of it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0iO9RMKoxo

If you like, listen. If you don't.......................do something else?

Edit: Having watched a couple more of his vids, the guy's certainly an encyclopedia of riffs and licks, I can learn something here I think Smile

And Josh Smith and Greg Koch kicking it with Fulsom Prison Blues:

And in case you couldn't be bothered with the hour and a half above and so missed it, Greg's instrumental version of Led Zep's Since I've Been Loving You:

Well, it's a guitar of sorts, not your usual vertical guitar, more a horizontal slab with strings.
Anyway, I really like this because Dave is in the moment, living every single note and SKILLZ!
