I took Longshanks (Snotfeatures Cat) to the vets, to see if they might find something to give him some relief. As I suspected, he had a microchip and it turns out he lived somewhere round the corner, but had decided to decamp here when he was very young.

So they treated him as a "Missing Cat" and kept him in, said they'd contact the owners and let them know he had been "found".

Feels funny without that fat lump snorting chunks of phlegm about the place.

Edit: I haven't told hoffy yet. That boy has an unnatural passion for that cat, its not right Laughing

All of the recurring problems I've had to face at work over the past couple of weeks seem to have subsided.
Today was a day of random normality which is what I like.

Not sure if this should go in oiling or grinding gear thread but the BetFred website seems to be struggling, presumably under the train of yearly Grand National punters so I can’t give them any money. Never mind, it’s their loss.
I bet Mr. Fred Done is grinding his gears about this though!

Today, I mastered boiling eggs. I steam those bastards to perfection!

Eggs into the pot, add a little amout of water (water level should be around 5mm from the bottom), start the fire, in one minute the water starts boiling, then put a lid on the pot and on medium/medium-low heat 8 to 9 minutes for perfectly hardboiled egg, 7 to 8 minutes for a perfectly softboiled egg. Then cold water treatment to stop the cooking process, of course.

*Cooking time may vary due to diferent egg sizes, I use (L) - large eggs. Google this method, if you are interested.

So, that oiled my gears today and also the fact that this method takes me only 1/2 of the time and energy, compared to the traditional (Slavic?) method of puting cold eggs into a pot full of cold water.

Eggcellent. Thumbs Up

I boil water in the kettle for speed.

Then I chuck the kettle water into a saucepan and turn the gas on until it's bubbling properly again.

Then I put the eggs in gently, I leave the gas on for one minute.

I turn the gas off after that one minute and straight away put a lid on the saucepan.

Then I time how long I leave them before putting them in cold water to stop them cooking. I like hard boiled eggs so I leave them in for about 12 minutes, including the one minute with the gas on. Varying the total time varies how soft you want your egg.

The above is what I do for medium sized eggs, I don't keep them in the fridge so they start at room temperature.

I almost never put eggs in the fridge.

Not for any particular gourmet or health/safetynazi reason, but mainly because I have such a titchy fridge, space in there is at a premium, and the eggs already have a handy protective shell that saves them from going off anyway.

EURO spec eggs do not need refrigeration. We don't wash our eggs prior to storage/sale, so the natural protective layer on the egg stays intact. 'mericans on the other hand do wash their eggs, which means you have to keep those refrigerated, otherwise you risk salmonela contamination. Thumbs Up

English Heritage live streaming musicians playing with nightingales.

I would have dismissed it as a load of old hippy shit, and not punk rock, but it was actually very uplifting and enjoyable.

The lady next door gave me a box of sweets, I think they're called laddoo, sticky yellow balls of semolina and ?saffron.

There was half a dozen, but when she gave them to me, I was stoned-as, so I snorted four in quick succession, then managed to stop myself.

Just had the other two now.
Gear-oilingly bad for me Laughing

Indian, I'm sure.

Not that it matters a whole lot. Silk road culture, whichever way you look at it. Kebabs, silk, sweets, rugs. etc. I've been to Southall and enjoyed ladoos prepared by Sikhs of Indian origin.

Yes, she is a Sikh lady of Indian origin.
Feeds me quite often.
Not as often as she used to when I had Bruno, but often enough to oil my gears Laughing

I'm even more fond of burfi, Christ I could eat that by the boxload, all the different colours.
It's like the Indian equivalent of tablet Wub
I am also pancreas-stressingly fond of baklava Wub Wub

The tyre pressure sensor that I changed the battery on three months ago for my BMW GS Adventure and didn't work, has just started to work properly. No yellow triangles and little tyre symbol on the cash any more.
