So far I'm pretty happy with my FZ1, but I notice it needs a bit of feathering the clutch to get it to go anywhere. It doesn't seem to stutter at low revs it just doesn't rev up very fast so I have to feather into more power.

I distinctly remember my ZX9 pulling like a train right from the clutch engaging, my 750 and 1000 gixxers too.

A bit of reading up seems like this is "normal" for these bikes? Feels like a 600 in the way I have to get it right up in the revs. I expected more lov rev power from a 1000cc. I've not ridden I'm three years and it didn't really surprise me, I thought it would.

Did a plug swap after I bought it just so I'd know that was done.

Can't say I've noticed anything like that with mine.
Is the exup valve operating correctly?
Standard exhaust?

Your performance sounds abnormal to me as well. Could be something as simple as a dirty mass airflow sensor, or low fuel pressure, assuming your bike is fuel injected.
