To Brightlingsea via the wiggly roads north of Maldon:

Fair to say it was a cold one, but worth doing. My new cheap ass Chinese heated vest paid dividends. £18 well spent. Also remembered the heated grips this time Laughing

Not my most flowingest ride ever but still a decent average speed across the 125 ish miles total.

It's just got a USB charging cable stuck out of one of the front pockets - you could plug it into a suitably USB cable from the bike itself, but since I have a battery pack that'll power it for ~8 hours in one hit, I just stick the battery pack in the pocket and use it like that.

Since I had spinal surgery I always run a full back protector now - so the belt for that snugs the vest into me which is lovely around the kidneys Laughing

It's totally homoerotic to look at but works well Thumbs Up
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Unisex-Electric-USB-Heated-Vest-Jackets-Heating-Winter-Body-Warmer-Gilet-Coats/293714883948

Two things to note:
1) The one I have - the highest setting cycles off into the medium setting after 7 minutes. I don't mind that TBH, initial burst then the medium setting is more than good enough - but I've been told if you ask them for one that doesn't do that, they do have a normal option.
2) Sizing wise I'm a relatively big guy but I'm no Jabba The Hut. Fatties need not apply - I think I got the 3XL and it's snug.

There's others available - that's just the one I plumped for. Seem to have gone up in price a bit. I blame Val for making everyone vote Brexit.

Seems everyone else had the same idea on going to the Memorial:

Rural Wiltshire, Hampshire and Surrey are all commutable to London, especially if you have work from home options so don't need to do it everyday.

Where are the hills?! Mr. Green
I think it's just wr puts a little thought into his photography. It's not roads and scenery (except some of the old country villages) I miss from the south of the country.

but yeah Salisbury Plain is quite flat. 150 square miles of it on my doorstep though, probably more Byways and green lanes than any other part of the country.

I rode the area for a couple of years when I lived in Oxfordshire. Tbh, I preferred even Essex. Never been into off-road of even the mildest description, so I didn't have that consolation.

They are, but not in the same way. I'm door to door in less than an hour on the train and it's buttons for a ticket. In an Oyster zone so can just tap in on credit card and off we go.

The thought of spending 4x as much on a ticket, minimum, and at least twice as long, just makes me want to gag. Regardless of how much I get in return. I don't think I'll be WFH more than a day / two a week, tops, once we all get back into London. I don't like WFH, either, if I'm honest. Been an absolutely shit year for that - started a new job and have never met ANYONE from my team.

I'm retiring in around 15 years so will have plenty of time in later life - assuming I don't snuff it first, of course.

This thread is propaganda for it these days, isn't it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - it's the best 'worst' bike I've ever owned.

In my garage I have an £8k bike that I like a lot and a £3k bike I absolutely love.

Out on the Codicote road between Old Welwyn and Hitchin. Absolutely gorgeous evening and perfect temperature for a ride.

Yep, I was out last night. Scrubbing in the new tyres by progressively riding the Snake Pass . . . twice. Decided on this occasion to make the detour to the top of the Upper Derwent valley. This road is odd in that it's closed at weekends and bank holidays from the main car park at Fairholmes, but as a local getting there in the evening is perfectly possible. Despite this, I've never actually travelled to the top. Some sort of murder drama was being filmed too about halfway along it! The road was twisty and a bit loose, but it felt like another world up there. Really quite glorious.

Here's a few pics, one of the VFR at the top of the Upper Derwent road, then another by Ladybower just before rejoining the Snake Pass.

Today I have been to Mundesley.
A little town on the north Norfolk coast.

Why? Because I wanted a bag of chips and a cup of tea.
No other reason.
Not a lot there, but that’s part of the charm .
Nice beach Thumbs Up
A war memorial and a memorial to the bomb disposal fallen.
And a woolly mammoth bone Eh? .

https://i.postimg.cc/JDj2q9WF/8-FFC06-A1-9-E5-A-435-D-BA38-B17-BB00674-BC.jpg
https://i.postimg.cc/KkbddZQb/071-AA436-B799-410-C-9074-D47-C5-F42-E706.jpg

My little RX3 Chinese 250 was the ideal bike today.
The roads (B1150 & B1145) leading to Mundesley are not fast roads, but nice anyway.
It was really nice to get out on the bike.
However, there still is a spiteful nip in the air and the sunshine fools you into thinking you need less kit than you really do.
Luckily for me I took the precaution of putting over-trousers & t-shirt in my panniers, hmmm toasty! Smile .
