Where is the OP in all of this? Not a peep out of him; first post generates 3 pages (and counting) of intellectual sentiment, he is nowhere to be found. Wish I had that kind of talent. Confused

Biking is dangerous, almost all of us on here know someone who has died playing this game. I have buried a few people from motorcycle fatalities.

But, that said, my next door neighbour growing up died by choking to death on a fish bone. You could put it that eating take away fish is dangerous too.

IMHO, quite possibly the best piece of advice on this thread but, unless you really like living dangerously, you might not want to mention your affiliation with a new riding partner to the missus! Laughing

This made the news a few years ago, while it didn't set a legal precedent it was nonetheless a very important legal event.

2x parents of a young boy split very acrimoniously & as the selfish bastards tend to promptly began using the small boy as a weapon to batter each other. The father purchased a powerful rocketship motorcycle to excite the young boy on the 1 day a fortnight he had access. Despite the mothers best efforts to poison the young boy's mind against his father, the young boy thought riding on the back of that bike was just about the bestest thing in the whole wide world.

The mother went back to court, ultimately to stop even that 1 day a fortnight access, using the fact that the father was taking the young boy out pillion on a powerful rocketship motorcycle & as any right minded thinking person thinks powerful rocketship motorcycles are incredibly dangerous aren't they.

This was a family court, the judge ruled that access continues because he didn't consider 'motorcycling' to be a dangerous activity.

Unless you are legally trained & have at least a basic understanding of how it all works, then you can never fully appreciate just how important to every motorcyclist that decision was.

Got back into biking to tour with the wife, but My missus hates motorbikes , hates me riding one and won't go on the back of one.

Quite glad really as I hate taking a pillion. I can ride how I like without a jab in the kidneys. She can go shopping while I tour Wales or the Highlands enjoying my own company.

Reassure her that accidents are more likely when younger and with all the right gear and sensible riding , advanced riding courses etc will negate some of that, tell her riding helps prevent prostrate problems, she may not look it up.

It's wanking, not riding, that prevents prostate problems....

To be fair, riding women helps with that via the same mechanism as wanking though. So providing the OP doesn't claim that specifically "riding motorcycles" prevents prostate problems, he ain't lying

Not sure if you can help, but thought I’d ask!

Your partner is 100% right - no sarcasm here. Motorcycles are deadly - one mistake could cost you life, turn you into vegetable or make you cripple. Either you and your partner accept it or better forget about riding.

My wife is the same, hates bikes, it took me 15 years to get approval to get a 125 scooter on a CBT 2 years later I’m doing my DAS but she’s still iffy about the whole thing and isn’t keen on my actually getting a bike, she’d rather I had a maxi scooter.

My method was to point out how many ne’er do wells that motorcycling attracts and try to convince her its those knobs and not sensible upstanding mature gentlemen like us that have all the crashes.

Also promise to do the extra training, get a bike that is famously dull/uncool and wear all of the gear so you look like one of them IAM obsessives and you might get there.

My other convincing point was that I wanted to ride to work because I hate the train so I took to cycling a 40 mile round trip everyday for 5 years to prove a point. When I got knocked of that she decided I would be safer with a proper helmet on and relented to a degree.

I just need to get sign off now on an NC750, if I get a dct one it’s a scooter anyway as far as I’m concerned.

What? Prostate problems? No no no.
I take one pill a day for my enlarged prostate and in general I am fine.

+1 Nobby.
I used to be a prolific wanker in my youth and never had any prostate probs.
Don't get me wrong, I am still a wanker but as I get older the urge to spank the monkey and frequency has become less and less.... result.. enlarged prostate.
I rest my case.
