The BST36SS carbs were fitted to lots of bikes in that era, most common source is Bandit 1200 mk1.
If the mixture screws are OEM stainless then they most likely seized in due to galvanic corrosion. If you cannot get a screwdriver on 'em then they will need to be drilled out. Quite easy if you have the right drill bit & can fabricate a drill guide to keep the bit straight. If not, then any proper automotive engineering shop will be very familiar with this problem
If the screws are brass then they likely made of Chinesium from the cheapest of cheap rebuild kits, which doesn't bode well for the rest of the bits in the carbs . . . .
Make life easy on yourself & do this first. Mix acetone (nail varnish remover) 50/50 with either ATF or power steering fluid. Turn your carbs upside down & you have a perfect 'well' around the screw to flood with this mix. This mix is proven to be a better penetrating oil than Plusgas, & Loctite say it's the only thing that has a chance against their permanent bonds. WD40 is no use to you here.
Let this mix do it stuff for at least 48hrs & keep topping it up.
If you can get a screwdriver on them, they will loosen easily, if you can't, then they will unwind during the drilling.
If the screws are jammed 'cos some fukwit bottomed the needle point into the carb body, then torqued 'em up 3x ugga dugga's . . . Then your carbs are BCF'd. Don't try to bullshit anyone with half a clue that it wasn't you what did it, your bike wouldn't tickover in this condition & you should put the tools down & step away from the motorcycle. Let the grown ups fix it. ____________________ I clean my guns with the tears of the snivelling, left wing scum. |
