3X4 Marine ply.
Bottle of UPVA.
A handful of accoutrements.

A set of lugs to appreciate the expense.

The rule of diminishing returns doesn't quite cover it. Laughing

Same with watches, clothing, cars, pots and pans.

My guess is most buyers will have their speakers poorly situated in a horrible sounding room whilst feeling very proud as they lower the needle onto £2 Nessun Dorma LP purchased from a charity shop.

As an owner of a 1 litre sportsbike I'm aware of these types of folly....hence I like it. Very Happy

Same sort of thing as making a guitar: it's not the [tone]wood that counts it's the effort in the finishing.

I think the 'engineering' in the record deck it to make the thing rigid and dense enough to be able to absorb noise that is not the noise you want to listen to.

I always assumed that the wood used to make wood instruments was critical to the sound produced.

Density of material directly effects the sound.

Finish probably indicates the workmanship. Or rather should point to dedicated craftsmanship.
But that obviously get hijacked by shysters who will spend a hour to make something from cheap materials then a few hours polishing the fcuk out of it to make it look like a quality item.

Great piece of work trashed by the ridiculously overlength screws holding the cartridge in place. Doh!

They are thumb screws.

You use thumbs and fingers to tighten and loosen.

They have to be that length due to access.

For ergonomic reasons as opposed to mere chance.

I don't think they are too long. Possibly not 'tooled' screws for simplicity of removal. No need to hunt for a tool.

I don't know why one would need to regularly remove/refit.

But that's why they are so long.
