It’s not as picturesque as the Lake District or North Scotland , but it’s a nice enough place to be Thumbs Up and a lot closer to most of us.

I quite like Wells next the Sea ( wifes mums ashes are scattered in the dunes there) and Norfolk has some lovely roads and without the traffic volume quite a lot of them are pretty nice surfaces too.

Another local bimble for me tonight on the Baldock to Buntingford road, not so cold here and traffic volume still very light.

Think it's time i talked the wife into letting me buy her CB400SF off her as the Z1000 is just too easy to not change gears on. I miss the thrashing of the CB500.

Beautiful weather yesterday

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51137155713_8879508994_h.jpg

Found what I think maybe the last "backdoor" in to Imber that isn't covered in gates and motion sensing cameras. Getting here was rough as hell though, there's a BOAT that leads right to where the picture was taken but it's heavily overgrown and the ground under it is ripped to hell from tracked vehicles using it heavily in the past (I fell off twice).

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51137714489_d965818152_h.jpg

and this one escaped again.

Took a little run up to Finchingfield this morning. It was NOT warm but it was very busy even relatively early doors. Met up with a mate and then did a ~20 mile backroad loop through what I would say was very much Enfield territory - more nadgery just wider than single track sort of stuff - and ended up at Andrewsfield aerodrome which is where these badboys had picked to convene.

110 miles. Summer gloves were a mistake - missed the heated grips of the BM - and it seems Mrs Arry decided to use my battery pack to charge her phone yesterday as it was only a quarter charged when I set off despite it having been fully charged the last time I saw it. Hmm... Ran out after a couple of hours. Thankfully not too Baltic.

Guess where I've been today Laughing

Mine are mirror images of Pidgeees and I didn't actually snap any pics of bikes at all.

We parked in the disabled bays - both of us look like we're needing mobility scooters just for different reasons.

Just as we arrived at Bewl the rain started but it was pretty light. On the way home I blasted the A21 as Mrs Arry wasn't feeling very understanding about how fun bikes and mates can be. Hit one little pocket of rain but very, very light,

Seems Pidgey got moister than a nun exposed to Xhamster Shocked

Rode down to the East Somerset Light Railway. I don't like trains so took no photos of them. Took some of bikes though Laughing

It's not a bad little place, big picnic area. Reasonably priced basic food. If you like steam trains and restoration of steam trains it's probably your version of the Playboy Mansion.

Lot on my mind at the moment with a lot going on in life, so decided to escape the whole day and blow out some dark thoughts.

The plan was to end up on Mersea Island so I could get a seafood fix but I wanted to go up there the long way around.

First I headed up through The Ongars, then The Rodings and to the other side of Stanstead to Takely, Thaxted, and The Sampfords to drop into Finchingfield via an unfamiliar direction for me, having always approached it from the south.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51170254529_8f20d180a6_c.jpg

Quick coffee on the green. Well I say quick, I was quick to drink it, but it was nearly half hour in the queue. The joys of the 'Rona. Few Rozzers on bikes up there, talking to locals, seemingly unfussed about the great plague. Couple of Covid Marshalls knocking around, seemingly incredibly concerned for the welfare of the people there.

Took longer than I wanted to get on the move again, but I was in no particular rush today, as long as I got my seafood.

Dropped out of Finchingfield to the east and onto Sible Headingham. At some point in the next stretch either I, or the Beeline nav, had a bit of a brain fart and I ended up down some proper nadgery single track stuff, which with the rain we had the night before was pretty lethal for gravel / damp corners. Average speeds were low, but it was still quite fun - thankfully didn't see a lot of cars or indeed any other traffic.

Ran through to Bures and then down to Wakes Colne to pick up Chappel Viaduct.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51169471686_2a66643fa4_c.jpg

It was at this point that I realised that my summer gloves had a little more ventilation than they should have, since the thumb of my left hand had worn through entirely and the hole was now ~2mm in diameter easily - by the time I got home, you'd have got a thumb print without taking the glove off. Bastard. Time for new gloves Rolling Eyes.

That left me some plain sailing to do to finish up on Mersea via Birch and Abberton. It seems Essex County Council has had a shortage of Tarmac going on as they've just chucked gravel down everywhere from Abberton through Great Wigborough and onto Mersea. Freshly thrown down too, so still with piles of the stuff making up the middle of the road where the car wheel tracks haven't hit it. Must have ruined near 10 miles of roads around there and it's all stretches I like a lot, so that put me in a pretty foul mood.

But onto Mersea I went and the thought of the Company Shed serving me up some seafood was really dinging my dong. As with all things in the 'Rona affected world there was a queue. So I stood in it. And stood in it, and stood in it, until eventually a girl shouted out of the window 'food orders won't be taken until after 3:30pm. What the absolute?! You're seriously suggesting you can't just serve me a polystyrene tray of cockles?!!

So off to the West Mersea Oyster Bar I went with a fair bit of trepidation.

Busy, queuing out onto the road and the car park was shut. I had a word with one of the waitresses and asked if I could put the bike in the corner of the car park so I could keep an eye on it whilst waiting for a table and then it hit me. I didn't need a table:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51170254494_4a83bea981_c.jpg

Cockles, Crayfish Tails and Peeled Prawns - large pots of. And then it was time to take the Wigborough (meh, gravel), Goldhangar (meh, traffic) and Maldon (meh, A roads) roads home with just a little stop at Hanningfield to stare out at the water and contemplate life for a bit.

156 miles in lovely weather.

I'm starting to more seriously consider one of these but how does it handle complex roundabouts? I can be a bit of a melt at "visualising" things.

Shitty surface dressing it's a national plague, I think a biker with too much time and money needs to get badly injured in a way that's provably attributable to the shite surface and then drag it through the courts. I had a dig at one of our local Councillors about it on Facebook a couple of years ago and his response was telling me to ride slower. When I pointed out it made braking unsafe while doing under the limit on NSL roads I just got a laughing face back.

Very jealous, think I'll have to head down to Mudeford if we ever get any good weather here.

Hope the bike therapy worked, if it didn't the correct prescription is more.

Roundabouts are fine if:
Arrow You can count, and;
Arrow You can see.

It sticks a roundabout sign up in the middle of the pointer with your exit number on it. If you're ok near vision wise then it's quite clear. If you're someone that swaps between near and long prescription glasses I can imagine it's a bit iffy to see it.

If you can count your way down to the exit number on the roundabout, no bother. The pointer does also shift to the exit you should be taking as you roll down onto it, but that's sometimes a bit late depending on the size of the RB.

Complex junctions are its Achilles Heel really. It can only display one directional indication at a time so if you get one straight after the other, you're a bit screwed unless you happen to be looking at it. But you do get used to it, and if you see a junction to the right immediately after turning left then you become aware the chances are you're actually going down that one so a quick glance and you're good.

I've said before and I stand by it - it's not as good as a full navigation system at the things a full nav does well. But it's also not as frustrating as having a full navigation system barking things in your ear and having a bloody great map in front of your eyes to distract you all the time. Its strengths are its weaknesses, in some ways.

Agreed, it's super frustrating. Had a car pull out of a side turning on me and felt the front just ploughing on. It's not nice at all.

That's what I need, if it had relied on judging an arrow based on it's angle from 12 I would have been screwed. Literally I would stare at the thing overthinking it and plough through the roundabout Laughing

Complex junctions, meh.... I screw them up anyway.

Hmmm? Hmm?yer? Seafood?
I think my next bimble out will have to be to Cromer Thumbs Up .

Last time I went there on the bike for some seafood (Cromer crab), I got mugged by a Ringed Plover who decided he wanted to share my lunch Smile .
Cockles with vinegar and a little pepper, yum
And a Cromer crab to finish Thumbs Up

A nice easy run from my house.
I could check out the fishing while I’m there.

I ride my bike to get away from bitches shouting in my ear Laughing

My hearing is a bit messed up (when they say wear ear defenders when firing stuff, do it), so I've never got on with audio instructions on the bike. I struggle to focus on that one sound among the other noises that make their way in to my helmet.

I've been hovering pulling the trigger on the Beeline since Arry first mentioned it, I think now I will, well after she forgets about how much I recently spent at Hitchcocks.

Did a 500 mile tour around Wales this weekend; first time carrying camping kit (so in answer to my other thread, panniers and topbox held everything and will be the combination I'll use in future too). Some epic roads, although Friday was a tad "moist".

Here are some photos from the Brecon Beacons; clearly I couldn't stop on the most entertaining sections but there were some superb roads.

Friday's 4 hours in the rain shows in the state of the bike the following day!

Finally it's stopped raining!

Went out yesterday being an anti social git in a nearby woodblock. Must have enraged at least a dozen dog walkers.

Then took the GSXR out this morning, early to avoid the bank holiday bimblers. Tried to reduce my chickenstrips.
