I managed to brick my hotspot and now I need help to flash a new firmware to it.

It's a Huawei E5770S which powers on but just has a large 'up arrow' on the screen which presumably means it's in boot loader mode. I found a cracked firmware for it but I just can't get my head around performing the flash.

I followed a link to here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/huawei-e5770-custom-firmware-o2-sim-unlock.3911704/

Which seems to offer me some hope but I'm completely clueless with any of the procedure. I don't mind trying to flash the device as I have nothing to lose but I am wary of istalling stuff on my PC to do it.

Can someone help me bring this back to life? Huawei Tech support were very helpful on the phone but their repair department refused to fix it under warranty because even though I bought it new from amazon they said that it was listed as some kind of discounted item, like someone had bought a crate of returns and punted out the unopened stuff as brand new even though they were technically second hand. I used it for a year then did something daft and bricked it.

Cant help with the device I'm afraid but see its been around since 2015-2016 ish.
I did grab that balongflash file out of curiosity but windows defender
lost its shit when I ran a check so I deleted it.
It might have been a false positive but unwilling to take a chance on it.

I would suggest that if you buy another similar device you dont buy anything that is locked to any network.

I'm currently using a TP-link Archer MR600 that will run on any sim and
tinkering/firmware related stuff is pretty simple.
I cant get decent broadband for complicated, spendy reasons but this thing is the mutts nuts for my uses.

I scanned it with defender and it came back with 1 file scanned 0 threats found but thanks for looking.

Double-clicking it doesn't do much and running it from the command line with a /? switch doesn't give me a list of commands I can use it just returns ????????? ????? or something like that.

I particularly want to revive this because I had a 3TB drive slaved off it via cat5 and none of the others I can find allow for that.

I've had a look at the source code, some translations:

Code:
The utility is designed for flashing modems on the Balong V7 chipset, usage:
balong_flash.exe [options] <name of the file to load or the name of the directory with files>

Valid Options:

-p # - serial port number for communicating with the bootloader (for example, -p8 = COM8)
(if the -p switch is not specified, port autodetection is performed)
-n - multi-file firmware mode from the specified directory
-g # - set digital signature mode
  -gl - description of parameters
  -gd - disable signature autodetection
-m - display the firmware file map and exit
-e - parse the firmware file into partitions without headers
-s - parse the firmware file into sections with headers
-k - do not restart the modem at the end of the firmware
-r - forcibly restart the modem without flashing partitions
-f - flash even if there are CRC errors in the source file
-d # - setting the firmware type (DLOAD_ID, 0..7),
  -dl - list of types

The problem is that it's all in Russian so all the text comes out as ??? unless you change the language settings of your PC.

The procedure looks about as fiddly as reflashing phones Thinking
